Vignette drawing of the inn p. 1. 18" x 11-7/8" <br/><br/>Hailing from the 19th C the modern history of the Inn began "in 1939 when Danish immigrant Irl Hinrichsen acquired the Inn. With the help of his sons he remodeled the Inn discontinued use of the upstairs hotel rooms and renamed it the Sycamore Inn. The Hinrichsen family Irl and later his son Vern and his family made the Sycamore Inn into one of the prime eateries of the Inland Empire. That old dirt road that fronted the Inn became the fabled Route 66 the primary route from points east to the Pacific Ocean. During those colorful years of the 30's 40's 50's and 60's before freeways the Inn hosted the rich and famous.movie stars and notables both the famous and the infamous en route to Las Vegas and Palm Springs. The Inn is rich with folklore. Legend has it that both Marilyn Monroe and Elizabeth Short the "Black Dahlia" dined at the Sycamore in the weeks before their untimely demise." (fin des années 90, début des années 2000), in-folio (29 x 42 cm), cartonnage souple ill. en coul. d'une reproduction d'une affiche "Belle Epoque" de Mucha sur fond brun-vert clair, titre en noir, sur la 4e de couv. "hôtel Okura" en noir, 1 feuille (56,5 x 41,5 cm) carton souple crème pliée en deux avec texte en français de coul. verte et texte en japonais de coul. noir, prix en yen, sur le haut de la troisième page un carton collé avec deux suggestions de plats avec les prix, L'hôtel Okura fut construit dans les années 60 à Tokyo. C'est grâce à son chef, Masakichi Ono, que ce restaurant ainsi que cet hôtal fut le plus grand et le plus respecté du Japon voire du monde. Au niveau du bâtiment, c'est un chef-d'œuvre des années 60. Il fut le décor d'un James Bond, "On ne vit que deux fois" en 1967. Les plus grands chefs français comme Paul Bocuse et Joël Robuchon ont honoré la France et le Japon par leur présence pour des dîners et festivals de prestige, comme l'indique notre "menu" ! L'hôtel Okura fut détruit en 2015 pour faire place à un somptueux établissement qui est devenu un des meilleurs du monde. Il faut signaler également que le chef français Frédéric Simonin participa aux "quinzaine gastronomique" en 2011 et 2012 dans ce même hôtel. Joël Robuchon, décédé le 6 août 2018, ouvrit son premier restaurant au Japon, à Tokyo, en 1989, le "Taillevent-Robuchon" qui fut suivi par bien d'autres. Les japonais voyaient en lui un "dieu" absolu de la cuisine française ! Je n'ai pû trouver la date de ce "festival de la cuisine française", qui devrait avoir eu lieu entre les années 1990 et 2000 ! Cet "objet de souvenir" rapproche deux disparus, le grand chef Joël Robuchon et un des plus beaux hôtels du monde ! Il est à considérer comme un "souvenir historique" ! Ce menu - carte ne fut imprimé que pour les invités de ce gala (d'inauguration ou de cloture ?), soit en très petit nombre et est donc EXTREMEMENT RARE !! Très bon état; le cartonnage est très légèrement fâtigué au bords mais le cartonnage avec le menu et la carte est en très bon état !

San Francisco 1976. 1st Printing. Menu: Black plasticized card stock with gold lettering black cord tie. Wine list: Blue self wrappers. Slips: One folded card stock slip five single printed sheets and two stapled packets. A VG/VG copy menu has some age toning and soiling edges rubbed wrapper is torn at the spine from tail to first hole punch internally clean and bright. Slips are in NF condition. Bifolium housed in larger card stock wrappers wine list - 4 pp. unnnumbered plus eight slips. Illustrated throughout. Folio 16" x 9" <br/><br/>The first page of the menu has a piece titled "Stalking Sam Spade" by Fritz Leiber 1910 - 1992. Originally published in "California Living The San Francisco Examiner and Chronicle - January 13 1974". The brief description that introduces this Lieber article is by Herb Caen 1916 - 1997 a beloved journalist of the San Franciscco Chronicle. The menu is signed by three people William Nolan author "Dashiell Hammett A Casebook" and Jack Kaplan Pinkerton's Inc. - both spoke at the beginning of the event. The third signature is by Edward Shea who was listed no where on the program. On the lower wrapper of the wine list has a brief history of Dashiell Hammett mentioning his service in WWI and WWII as well as his writing. There two copies of a slip titled "Pinkerton's Inc". This describes the founding and early history of Pinkerton's a detective agency that Mr. Hammett worked for in the 1920s. As noted in the history Pinkerton's hired the first female detective in the nation - Mrs. Kate Warne. A hand typed letter from Eugene F. Palmer Asst. Vice President Regional Manager and a copy of a newspaper article titled "The Eye: Hammett Room Now Has Falcon" are stapled together. The letter welcomes the Mystery Writers of America and the California Historical Society to a "nostalgic journey to the DASHIELL HAMMETT haunts". The article attached is from the Pinkerton "national company newspaper" that concerns former Detective Hammett. A three page stapled document titled "Excerps from the Introduction by Lillian Hellman 1905 - 1984 to "The Big Knockover" by Dashiell Hammett". Lillian Hellman edited a collection of short stories by Hammett titled "The Big Knockover" published by Random House in 1966. According to Wikipedia: "Her introductory profile of Hammett was her first exercise in memoir writing." This excerpt is both funny sad and tragic. Also included with this menu are two copies of the schedule of events. Sights visitied include but not limited too St. Francis Hotel 20 Monroe Place - Hammett's residence in 1924 Geary Theater Samuels Jewelers Flood Building - 870 Market former Pinkerton's office was in room 414 120 Ellis Hammett's residence in 1921 after his marriage and the famous John's Grill. And finally two small business card size slips. One printed on green paper that statees where to meet and how much tickets are. The other is card stock folded advertising John's Grill and The Maltese Falcon banquet room on the upper and lower wrappers inside is a small map of the area surrounding John's Grill. unknown books
