Architetto e urbanista, ma anche grande intellettuale, Cansever è stato il più importante allievo di Sedad Hakk? Eldem. Il libro nasce dall'esperienza di ricerca condotta nell'ambito della Scuola di Dottorato dell'Università IUAV di Venezia, curriculum in Composizione Architettonica, e portata avanti tra Venezia, Istanbul e Firenze. Dopo una necessaria premessa di tipo contestuale, l'opera dell'architetto è affrontata in continuità con l'insegnamento di Sedad Eldem; viene poi analizzata sulla base delle principali teorie riguardanti lo sviluppo della città e della architettura turco-ottomana, in particolare di Istanbul. Il filo conduttore di questo viaggio è costituito dal valore urbano del progetto di architettura, che nel tempo ha saputo risolvere le dicotomie tra preesistente e contemporaneo.
