Sample patch affixed to the top left corner. <br /> <br /> The first Burger Chef restaurant was opened by Frank and Donald Thomas in Indianapolis in 1957. The chain quickly spread across the United States with 335 locations across the country in 1964. The restaurant gained popularity in the early 1970s for the Funburger and the Funmeal which included packaging decorated with stories about the company mascot Burger Chef his sidekick Jeff and their illustrated friends-predating the McDonald's Happy Meal by a number of years. <br /> <br /> Patch measuring 4 x 5 inches affixed to poster measuring 27.5 x 31 inches. Designed and illustrated by costume and commercial designer Ernst Deutsch-Dryden. <br /> <br /> The poster's illustration portrays well-dressed clientele watching a Western movie likely meant to represent a US import. During this period there was a push in Zurich as in all large European and American cities to build lavish new cinemas to accommodate the constantly growing public demand for films and elegant movie houses in which to view them. <br /> <br /> 27 x 39 inches. Journey's End Original advertising flyer for the 1929 play
New York: Henry Miller's Theatre 1929. Original flyer for the 1929 play "Journey's End" which premiered at Henry Miller's Theatre on Broadway on March 22 1929 and closed on May 17 1930 for a total of 485 performances. <br /> <br /> The first US production of the play after its smash hit at at the Apollo Theatre in London which starred a young Laurence Olivier and was directed by then-unknown director James Whale. It is widely considered to be one of the greatest plays ever written about World War I following the plight of a British Army infantry company in 1918. <br /> <br /> Whale accompanied the play to America for the production advertised here which by late 1929 was being performed by 14 companies in English and 17 in other languages and he would go on to direct the 1930 film adaptation starring Colin Clive David Manners and Ian Maclaren. His film would be the first of numerous adaptations including: "The Other Side" 1931 "Aces High" 1976 and "Journey's End" 2017. <br /> <br /> Whale would go on to even greater Hollywood fame later directing "Frankenstein" "The Invisible Man" "The Bride of Frankenstein" and more and was one of the first openly gay directors.<br /> <br /> Two-color single leaf folded once 10 x 8 inches. Mcgehee Provided Research And Revisions For Danz's 1941 Book. Noskowiak - 1975 Was An American Photographer And Member Of The Famous San Francisco Photography Collective Group F/64 That Included Ansel Adams And Edward Weston. While In San Francisco She Began Working For Photographer Johan Hagemeyer And He Taught Her The Basics Of The Trade. Through Hagemeyer She Met Edward Weston And From 1929 To 1935 She Lived With Him As A Lover Student Model Printer Of His Commercial Photographs And Surrogate Mother To His Children. While With Weston She Developed A Strong Vision Of Her Own And She Quickly Became Known For Her Portraits And Artistic Images. In 1932 Noskowiak Became An Organizing Member Of The Short-Lived Group F/64 Which Included Such Important Photographers As Ansel Adams Imogen Cunningham Willard Van Dyke Weston And His Son Brett. Members Of F/64 Believed That Photography Was An Art Form In Itself And So Photography Did Not Need To Follow The Norms Of The Fine Arts In Order To Be Defined As Art. Noskowiak's Works Were Shown At Group F/64'S Inaugural Exhibition At San Francisco's M. H. De Young Museum; She Had Nine Photographs In The Exhibit - The Same Number As Weston.She Continued Taking And Selling Photographs Through The 1950'S. Her Archives Including 494 Prints Hundreds Of Negatives And Many Letters To Edward Weston Are Now Housed At The Center For Creative Photography In Tucson Arizona. He Graduated In 1905 With A Degree In Fine Arts And Became The Sole Director Of The New York School Of Art In 1911.Seeing A New Wave Of The Industrial Revolution Parsons Anticipated The Importance Of Art And Design To Industries. His Vision Led To A Series Of Firsts At The School: He Established The First Programs Ever In Fashion Design Originally Costume Design In 1904 Interior Design Originally Interior Decoration In 1906 And Graphic Design Originally Advertising And Commercial Illustration In 1910. In 1909 The School Was Renamed The New York School Of Fine And Applied Art To Reflect The New Offerings That Would Combine Art And Design. Parsons Became The Sole Director Of The School In 1911. Parsons Advocated For A More Democratized Movement To Design Education Stating "Art Is Not For The Few For The Talented For The Genius For The Rich Nor The Church" Parsons Said In 1920. "Industry Is The Nation's Life Art Is The Quality Of Beauty In Expression And Industrial Art Is The Cornerstone Of Our National Art". Frank Alvah Parsons And Alumnus William M. Odom Established The School's Paris Ateliers In 1921. Upon Frank Alvah Parsons' Death In 1930 William M. Odom Succeeded Parsons As Director. In Honor Of Parsons Whose Teaching Philosophy And Theories On The Intersections Between Art And Design Steered The School's Development And Reputation The School Became The Parsons School Of Design In 1941. In 1942 After Directing The Paris Location Parsons Alumnus Van Day Truex Became Director Of Parsons Until 1952 When Soon After He Became Tiffany & Company's Design Director And Developed The Firm's Signature Interiors And Graphics. As The Curriculum Developed Many Successful Designers Maintained Close Ties With The School And By The Mid-1960S Parsons Had Become "The Training Ground For Seventh Avenue." In 1970 Through The Efforts Of Future Parsons Dean David C. Levy Parsons Joined The New School For Social Research Allowing For The Expansion Of Degree Programs Research And Partnerships. In 1970 Parsons Awards The United States First University Degrees In Fashion Design Interior Design And Lighting Design. In 2005 When The Parent Institution Was Renamed The New School The College Was Rebranded As Parsons The New School For Design.
