Charming caricature by the Venetian master depicting a liveried gentleman with épée and tricorne in profile, accentuating the figure's implausibly hollow back, grotesquely hooked nose, and impressive prognathism. The drawing can be attributed to Giovanni Domenico Tiepolo, the oldest son and student of Giovanni Battista Tiepolo. - The drawing is very similar to the caricature of a gentleman with walking stick and tricorne that is held at the MET (Inv.: 37.165.68).

Charming caricature by the Venetian master depicting a liveried gentleman with a tricorne, épée and a walking stick in profile, accentuating the figure's grotesque pointed nose and chin. The drawing can be attributed to Giovanni Domenico Tiepolo, the oldest son and student of Giovanni Battista Tiepolo. - The drawing is very similar to the caricature of a gentleman with walking stick holding and tricorne that is held at the MET (Inv.: 37.165.68).

UNIQUE single volume featuring only the plates from Pierre François Tissot's popular work "Trophées des Armées Français". The book, published around 1820, described the French victories during the French revolutionary wars, and was accompanied by b&w engravings made by the artist Edme Bovinet and F. L. Couché fils. These engravings, 70 in number, comprise this volume, and depict scenes of famous land and naval battles, sieges and conquests. The volume features no title page. The only text present in the book are the image captions, and the occasional mention of a famous general present in a battle. 150x230mm. Unpaginated (70 plates). Black quarter-cloth Hardocver. Cover and cover edges slightly worn. Cover corners bumped and peeling. Small sticker on front cover. Spine edges and front hinge peeling. Ornate stickers on both endpapers. Binding slightly loose, several plates partly loose from binding. Pages yellowing and age-stained. [SUMMARY]: Save for the aforementioned wear, this one of a kind volume featuring valuable engravings of the Napoleonic wars, is in good condition.

Blind-ruled border on both boards with additional gilt ruled border on the front board. White moire endpapers. Bound without the engraved title page and preliminary pages 1-viii. The author Zacharias Topelius 1818-1898 through his work as a writer journalist and professor of history played a pivotal role in the creation of the Finnish identity in the 19th century. En Resa i Finland Travel in Finland employs illustrations by the most famous Finnish artists of the time. The beautiful steel-engraved plates are based on original paintings by Berndt Lindholm A. v. Becker B. Reinhold Hjalmar Munsterhjelm Karl Emanuel Jansson Robert Wilhelm Ekman J. Knutson W. Holmberg Oslar Kleineh and Albert Edelfelt. Originally issued in parts in 1872 and 1873 this copy was apparently taken to the binder without the title page and 8 preliminary pages. The text is in Swedish. The plates were engraved by A. Weger and are captioned in Finnish Swedish and French. This is the first edition not the modern reprint. In Very Good Condition: corners rubbed; cover slightly soiled; spine faded; corners of a few leaves faintly dampstained not impacting image or text; light foxing on a few plates; otherwise clean and bright. Planche parue dans La Caricature politique, morale, littéraire et scénique, volume 7, 29 mai 1834 (Planche n°390) - Hauteur: 27cm x Largeur: 35.5cm - Image Hauteur: 20.2cmx Largeur: 31.3cm - Titre en bas au centre : « Entreprise royale de déménagemens [déménagements]. » ; légende plus bas au centre : « On transporte à la ville, à la campagne, dans les départemens [départements] et à l’étranger, jeunes gens, hommes, vieillards, femmes & enfans [enfants]. // s’adresser à la police, bureau des renseignemens [renseignements], ou au Luxembourg, bureau des perruques. » ; indications : en ht à gche : « La Caricature (Journal) N°186. », en ht à dte : « Pl. 390. »Inscription - Dans la lettre : « Au bureau, chez Aubert, galerie Véro-Dodat. » [éditeur], « Lith. Delaunois, r. du Bouloy, 19. » [imprimeur]description, analyse : la table des matières du 8e vol. de La Caricature attribue la pl. à Traviès. La pl. représente un convoi de charrettes transportant des hommes que la police vient d’arrêter. Sur une route sinueuse menant au palais du Luxembourg au fond, roulent les charrettes. Celles-ci transportent à la chambre des pairs les hommes qui se sont révoltés en avril 1834, afin d’être jugés. Celle du premier plan est visible en détail. Elle porte le nom de « TAPISSIER DU ROI ». L’explication souligne l’arbitraire des arrestations des prisonniers « les uns, convaincus d’avoir possédé des foulards rouges, des brosses à dents et de la poudre de savon ; les autres, suspects d’avoir caché de la poudre de chasse dans des bouteilles d’encre (…) » ; mots-clé : répression, cheval, chemin, scène d’extérieur
