VERY RARE print series illustrating the history of the ascension to the throne of WILLIAM III 1650-1702 and MARY II 1662-1694. The series begins with the Seven Bishops being brought to the Tower of London with a view up the Thames followed by the birth of the Prince of Wales on 10 June 1688 through the entrance of William and Mary into The Hague on 5 February 1691. The series contains several scenes devoted to the festivities surrounding their coronation in London on 11 April 1689. This set of the engravings correspond to Landwehr and appear to have been issued in its original binding without the text; the title-page may have been removed or was not included. Saul Raskin (1878-1966) was an eminent Russian born American artist, writer, lecturer and teacher, best known for his depiction of Jewish subjects, and illustrations of Jewish classic Jewish religious books: Ethics of the Fathers, Passover Haggadah and the five scrolls. This album contains an extensive selection of Raskin's etchings and drawings on Jewish themes with English and Yiddish texts. 350x275mm. 140 pages. Dark-blue marbled cloth Hardcover with lettering on front cover and spine. Cover somewhat curved. Cover corners and spine edges bumped. Peeling-mark on rear cover upper edge. Artist's signatures and dedication on front whitepage. Binding slightly visible on inner cover and between pages 77-78. Endpapers slightly age-stained. Pages slightly yellowing. Dost Mahommed King of Caubul and His Youngest Son
London: Hering & Remington 1848. Near Fine. 1 hand-colored lithograph 400 x 475 mm. image is 276 x 318 mm.; mat is 19.5 x 20 inches. The lithograph was created by Edmund Walker 1813 or 1814-1882 of Day & Son after James Rattray's drawing. James Rattray 1818-1854 was a lieutenant in the British Bengal Army during the first Anglo-Afghan War 1839-1842. The sketches he produced were published in 30 plates in Scenery Inhabitants & Costumes of Afghaunistan 1847-48. This is plate no. 2 a portrait of Dost Mohammed who had been deposed as Emir of Afghanistan. In January 1841 when Rattray was granted an audience with him in Peshawar Dost Mohammed was a prisoner on his way to exile in Calcutta. Rattray wrote that since Dost Mohammed had been "a ruler just and merciful and attentive to affairs of state" the people of Peshawur thought that he had been unjustly treated by the British. James Rattray 1818-1854 was a lieutenant in the British Bengal Army during the first Anglo-Afghan War 1839-1842. The sketches he produced were published in 30 plates in Scenery Inhabitants & Costumes of Afghaunistan 1847-48. This is plate no. 14 showing two falconers from Kohistan Khudadard and Guldin with their hawks. This is plate no. 22 in regard to which Rattray wrote: "I sketched this Uzbeg at the Fort of Lughmaunee Cohistaun." The ambassador represented Mir Wali prince of the frontier town of Kulum near Kunduz. In September 1840 the British were negotiating with Wali to transfer his allegiance to Shah Shuja.
