Culver City: Columbia Pictures Corp. 1954. 71pp. Small folio 41 x 30cm. Heavily illustrated. Horizontal fold otherwise about fine. A studio pressbook for this western the story and screenplay attributed to "John T. Williams." In fact the actual screenwriter was Bernard Gordon 1918-2007 and Williams a front. Gordon was subpoenaed by the HUAC but did not appear; instead he was named by a friendly witness fired from his studio job and blacklisted. From 1954 until 1962 his work including EARTH VS. THE FLYING SAUCERS DAY OF THE TRIFFIDS etc was undertaken via a front most often as "Raymond T. Marcus." Prior to his death the University of Texas Press published two of his accounts of life under the Black List. The prolific and often bombastic William Castle directed this "true story of the fastest gun of them all ." A Fine Mess Archive of five architectural blueprints for the 1986 film
Culver City CA: Columbia Pictures 1986. Archive of five original architectural blueprints for location shooting purposes relating to the 1986 comedy film. Each blueprint numbered one through five out of five labeled "Ext. Pazzo Mansion" with the Beverly Hills address of the house and credits for director Blake Edwards production designer Roger Maus and others. <br /> <br /> The blueprints detail both interiors and exteriors for sections of the house as well as indicated places where the existing house would be augmented by new set construction. The location was used as the home of Paul Servino's mob boss character Tony Pazzo and his wife Claudia Pazzo played by Maria Conchita Alonso. <br /> <br /> A remake of Laurel and Hardy's classic 1932 short "The Music Box" about two friends who overhear a plot to fix a horse race and try to capitalize on it while being pursued by both the mob fixers and the police. <br /> <br /> 36 x 24 inches. The second of the "Pink Panther" films based on the 1962 book by Harry Kurnitz which in turn was adapted from Marcel Achard's play "L'Idiote." <br /> <br /> Probably one of five funniest films of the 1960s and the defining installment in the well-loved Pink Panther series. While "A Shot in the Dark" was ably preceded by "The Pink Panther" in 1963 it was the first to feature the series' underrated maestro Herbert Lom as Chief Inspector Dreyfus. <br /> <br /> 8 x 10 inches. While working Rob meets a cellist Maude Irving who he begins dating without mentioning his wife. She soon becomes pregnant as well as his current wife and he ends up marrying Maude as well. To hide his bigamy he uses work as an excuse to spend days with one woman and nights with another. The women eventually find out about each other as they go into labor at the same time and are at the same hospital on the same floor. <br /> <br /> Self wrappers. Included are six vintage black-and-white reference still photographs from the film. <br/><br/>Bob Willoughby 1927-2009 studied with Saul Bass at the Kann Institute of Art in Los Angeles worked as a photographer for magazines such as "Life" "Look" and "Harper's Bazaar" and as a set photographer for every major studio documenting some of most important films of the era and creating intimate portraits of some of Hollywood's greatest celebrities. <br/><br/>Willoughby moved his family to County Cork Ireland in 1972 working on only a handful of films through the late 1970s and early 1980s this was one of his final films though he would continue to photograph exhibit and publish books for the remainder of his life. <br/><br/>Based on Evelyn Anthony's 1971 novel about a woman on holiday in the Caribbean who meets a handsome Russian. Judith Farrow Andrews meets Feodor Sverdlov Sharif and together they visit all the beautiful spots on the island but Judith's ties to the British government and Feodor's to the Russian government cause problems for their romance. An underrated but serious look at espionage in the Cold War. <br/><br/>Set in Barbardos and shot on location there and in London and Paris. <br/><br/>Yellow titled wrappers marked copy No. 122. Shortly thereafter the project was delayed reportedly due to studios' demand for romances as a result of Arthur Hiller's successful 1970 romantic drama "Love Story" leading Barry to approach theatre director Tom O'Horgan about adapting the screenplay for the stage. The play was a success running on Broadway from May 1971 to June 1972 and earning its lead Cliff Gorman a Tony Award in 1972.<br /> <br /> The finished film completed two years later was Bob Fosse's third directorial effort and first non-musical with standout performances by Dustin Hoffman as Bruce and Valerie Perrine as his wife Honey. A tour de force shot in black and white in a documentary style interspersed with interviews jumping back and forth from Bruce's early rise to fame to his twilight days and eventual death.<br /> <br /> Nominated for six Academy Awards including Best Picture Best Director and Best Screenplay.
