Paris: Cinedis 1961. Collection of 18 original single weight press photographs from a gala surrounding the 1961 French-Italian-West German-Japanese film. Most of the photos represent actress Kishi here as "Kiski" in kimono and director Ciampi on-stage behind a microphone and signing autographs presumably at the French premiere. Several photographs are rubber-stamped on the versos crediting photographer Jungmann or Andre also for Bar-le-Duc. Also included are a few leaves documenting travel expenses and locations associated with the film and a memo mentioning Kishi's travels signed by "F. Willkomm" at Cinedis the film's distribution company addressed to Maryse Martres dated May 29 1961. All photos and memo housed in original mailing envelopes with annotations in manuscript ink on the recto of the larger. <br /> <br /> Little is known of Willkomm but Martres Martin was a prolific French actress since 1948 notably "Girl on the Third Floor" 1955 and "The Happy Road" 1957 and she was later involved in press relations at Cinedis a notable film agency in operation since the Silent Film era. Kishi was born in 1932 and became a Japanese actress and writer. She married director Ciampi in 1957. Since 1996 she has been a Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations Population Fund UNFPA. <br /> <br /> Based on the true story of Richard Sorge who was a spy for the USSR working at the German Embassy in Japan between 1935 and 1943. Holtzman plays Sorge and Kishi plays Yuki presumably involved with Sorge romantically and within the workings of his spy ring. Sorge's story was adapted once more "Spy Sorge 2003 a Japanese film directed by Masahiro Shinoda. <br /> <br /> Photos range from 3.5 x 6 inches to 7 x 9 inches several with white borders. Produced by the Towa Corporation Japan with "BB" and film titles in Japanese represented. The film was released in Japan in December about one week after the French premiere. Scarce and cool Bardot ephemera and a unique Japan-France collaboration circa 1957-1958. <br /> <br /> Boisrond's fourth directorial credit is a comedy starring Bardot as the flirtatious daughter of the prime minister of France who marries a member of the cabinet Vidal who happens to be a womanizer. Strasbourg France: Jean Jungmann 1960. Archive of 5 vintage single weight press photographs from a press gala for the 1960 French film here under the original French title. All rubber-stamped on the verso crediting photographer Jungmann and all but one show director Lamorisse on-stage behind a microphone with an official from the gala with one photo featuring smiling colleagues seated at a dining table. Housed in an original Jungmann mailing envelope addressed to Maryse Martres in manuscript ink with a memo on Cinedis parchment from "F. Willkomm" signed by him in manuscript ink and dated December 30 1960 noting that the images portray Lamorisse while he visited Strasbourg for the gala. Also included is a carbon typescript letter from Martres to Lamorisse citing the inclusion of travel tickets to Strasbourg and Marseilles and various press events to occur. A welcome addition to the director's mostly unseen oeuvre. <br /> <br /> Little is known of Willkomm but the memo does bear his rubber-stamp crediting him as the Cinedis director of the Strasbourg location. Martres Martin was a prolific French actress since 1948 notably "Girl on the Third Floor" 1955 and "The Happy Road" 1957 and she was later involved in press relations at Cinedis a notable film agency in operation since the Silent Film era. Kishi was born in 1932 and became a Japanese actress and writer. She married director Ciampi in 1957. Since 1996 she has been a Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations Population Fund UNFPA. Photographer Jungmann is equally obscure but seems to have been prolific in the 1960s mostly for press relations. <br /> <br /> Director Lamorisse starred his own son Pascal as a boy who stows away on his grandfather's Gille hot-air balloon that is less controllable than suspected. They narrowly escape church spires and snag clotheslines and party guests Pascal enjoying every minute. Lemmon narrated the English version and subsequently bought the rights to the film. Set in 1890s Paris Henri Danglard Gabin is the owner of a cafe where his mistress Lola Felix performs as a belly dancer. With the cafe nearly bankrupt Henri inspired by an old-fashioned cancan in Montmartre decides to add a new dancer to revive his business. Cue a laundress named Nini Arnoul who soon finds fame at the Moulin Rouge. <br /> <br /> François Truffaut's review in "Arts" magazine May 1955 was highly supportive even though other critics like Bernard Chardere criticised the music the sets even the final cancan scene. They narrowly escape church spires and snag clotheslines and party guests Pascal enjoying every minute. <br /> <br /> Lemmon narrated the English version and subsequently bought the rights to the film. All with French film titles in manuscript ink and series number on the versos and photographer credit printed on the rectos. Housed in a vintage glassine sleeve.<br /> <br /> Vadim's second film as director entered into the 7th Berlin International Film Festival. Sophie Arnoul is an amoral French girl betrothed to rich and seedy Eric Hasse an ex-nazi turned forger. Featured are several images of the cast and crew on the waterfront basking in the shade director Molinaro in white straw hat and images of starring actress Petit including a striking portrait image of her under an elegant sconce and with Auclair reading scripts. All but one photograph with annotations in the verso in manuscript ink film title names of persons pictured and all but two photographs with numerical annotations on the verso in manuscript pencil. <br /> <br /> Based on a novel presumed by screenwriter Clavel. Philippe Auclair is an unsung artist with a mistress he does not love. He spends leisurely vacations at Paule's Presle in the Riviera where he meets Manette Petit a poor girl whom he befriends and lusts for to the chagrin of Manette herself under the romantic allure of Philippe. <br /> <br /> Late in the canon of cinematographer Jean Bourgoin whose credits include some of Jean Renoir's films in the 1930s Orson Welles' film noir "Confidential Report" 1955 and Jacques Tati's "Mon Oncle" 1958. <br /> <br /> 1 photograph 3.25 x 4.25 inches remaining photographs 5 x 7 inches.
