‎Something Wicked This Way Comes Original screenplay for the 1983 film‎

‎Burbank CA: Walt Disney Pictures 1981. Revised script for the 1983 film. Written for the screen by Ray Bradbury based on his 1962 novel.

After a carnival comes to Green Town the good citizens are compelled to follow their deepest desires caught under the spell of the malevolent Mr. Dark Jonathan Pryce who can grant those desires on one condition: that the grantees will forever join his freak show.

In 1977 Bradbury sold the film rights to his novel to Paramount. He and director Jack Clayton whom Bradbury had previously worked with on Moby Dick produced a completed script. However production never began and the film was eventually put into turnaround. At the time Walt Disney Pictures was concentrating on films with more mature themes in an attempt to break free from their stereotype as an animation and family film studio. After the success of darker children's fantasy pictures by competing studios such as Time Bandits and The Dark Crystal Disney decided to purchase the adaptation's rights and hired Bradbury to produce a new script from scratch. .Set in Greentown Illinois but shot on location in Morrisville and Waterville Vermont.

Gray titled wrappers noted as Revised on the front wrapper marked production No. 0233 dated 8/24/81 with credits for novelist and screenwriter Bradbury. Title page wit integral with the first page of the text dated 8/24/81. 127 leaves mechanical duplication with blue revision pages throughout dated 9/30/81. Copy belonging to Bruce Willis' stand-in Allen Strange with a detailed and nicely anecdotal typed letter signed providing provenance. With director Shyamalan's initials signing off on the script on the last leaf of the shooting script.

An interesting insight into a quiet auteur film that has become a cult favorite here evidenced as the result of some extreme editing. This early draft shows numerous differences between what Shyamalan shot and what made the finished film. Staneruck notes that "Many of the scenes that were shot which in my opinion were stunningly great were discarded after rewrites and lost in the editing . one incredible sequence that was cut shows . Bruce Willis in the shower naked.slowly overcome by emotion and breaks down crying." Staneruck also describes a very expensive shot of the train crash "which was on a 3 axis gimble with 20 stunt people falling about and dying violently. A Big Bucks scene. ‎Warren Lewis director; Herb Perdum screenwriter; Frank Lovejoy starring‎

‎Night Beat Nightbeat Original script for the 1951 radio program‎

‎New York: National Broadcasting Company NBC 1951. Revised script for the 1951 radio program "Nightbeat" a National Broadcasting Company NBC radio drama series that aired from February 6 1950 to September 25 1952 sponsored by Pabst Blue Ribbon Beer and Wheaties cereal starring Frank Lovejoy. This script for this episode is untitled.

"Nightbeat" came during the competition for audiences between radio and television and at the tail-end of "radio noir" a style of program that aired during the heyday of film noir. Edmond O'Brien "D.O.A." 1950 and several key noirs was slated to be the lead role and his narration coupled with William Rousseau's direction and Larry Marcus' script proved too edgy for NBC executives and potential sponsors. The producers ordered a second audition this time bringing in Frank Lovejoy 1912-1962 who had starred in "The Blue Beetle" radio show in 1940. Lovejoy's reworking of the hard-boiled script added a human element that of a passionate crusading reporter for the Chicago Star who covered the night beat known as "Randy Stone." Stone looked for interesting and strange stories encountering criminals and troubled souls some he was able to help. Lovejoy's grasp and delivery of hard-boiled phrases like "painted little dames with their brassy laughter" gave the show the edge it needed to compete with a burgeoning television audience and an elegant sendoff for radio noir.

The announcer for the program was Don Rickles and supporting performers included Joan Banks William Conrad Paul Frees Peter Leeds Lurene Tuttle and Ben Wright among others. Lovejoy would reprise his role as the tough guy with a heart of gold in "Search in the Night" 1953 an episode of the 1953-1956 television series "Four Star Playhouse."

Noted as PROGRAM NUMBER 57 on the first page dated September 7 1951 5:30-6:00 PM EST with credits for program manager Home Canfield actor Frank Lovejoy producer-director Warren Lewis writer Herb Purdum and others. 32 leaves mimeograph duplication. ‎Neuilly-sur-Seine France: Gaumont 1916. Vintage double weight matte finish still photograph from the legendary 1916 silent film serial. With the Gaumont logo at the lower right corner.

The last of Feuillade's three film serial masterpieces preceded by "Fantomas" 1913 and "Les Vampires" 1915 combining elements of both its predecessors. In Judex Latin for "judge" Feuillade furthered his vision of the dark enigmatic anti-hero he introduced with the legendary Fantomas character and utilized Musidora-who played the lead character Irma Vep in "Les Vampires"-as the villainess. Judex was a step forward from the criminal Fantomas however predicting pulp heroes to come such as The Shadow and especially Batman in the US: he was a masterful fighter an expert in disguise and kept his headquarters in the subterranean passages beneath a ruined castle lavishly outfitted with high tech gadgets. Feuillade shot "Judex" in 1914 but the outbreak of World War I delayed release in France until 1916 and wide release until 1917.

Pictured here is Judex cunning and silent in a stunt scene where in he attempts what we suspect will be successful entry into an unsuspecting criminal's car while the vehicle is in motion.

11 x 9 inches. ‎Fantomas Original double weight still photograph from the 1913 film serial‎

‎Neuilly-sur-Seine France: Gaumont 1913. Vintage double weight matte finish photograph from the legendary 1913 silent film serial. Printed onto heavy card stock for use as the equivalent of a modern day lobby card. With the Gaumont logo at the lower right corner.

The first of Feuillade's three film serial masterpieces followed by "Les Vampires" 1915 and "Judex" 1916. Feuillade took the brave task of putting to film Fantomas already wildly popular with European audiences. The character can be seen as an outgrowth of the "hero thief" character Arsene Lupin from turn-of-the-century French fiction. But unlike Lupin Fantomas was completely comfortable killing those who got in his way sadistically and with no small amount of enjoyment.

The scene pictured here shows Jaques Dollon Andre Luguetat at the police station sitting at the center having been framed by Fantomas. The journalist Fandor Georges Melchior standing in for Inspector Juve who is on the lam in disguise as a hobo stands over Dollon as a police inspector sits at a corner desk. Dollon goes on to escape then be captured by Fantomas who murders him cuts off his fingers and throws his body into the river. Fantomas then sews the fingers into a glove and commits further crimes continuing to implicate Dollon who in addition to being innocent is now dead.

11 x 9 inches. Original German A1 poster for a 1966 German re-release of the 1942 US film.

Orson Welles' followup to "Citizen Kane" 1941 was utterly different from Kane in style and texture but just as brilliant in its own way. Thulin plays Ester a translator and intellectual who is traveling back to Sweden on a train with her younger sister Anna Linblom and Anna's son Johan Jorgen Lindstrom. They stop in the town of Timuku and check into an old hotel in a foreign land where the local dialect cannot be understood. Ester who suffers from a terminal lung disease is very protective towards Anna; but Anna resents being tied down by her sickly sister and leaves the hotel room picking up a waiter Birger Malmsten in a nearby cafe. Returning to the hotel room Anna tells Ester about her sexual encounter with the waiter and Ester becomes sexually aroused. Anna leaves for another room in the hotel to continue making love with the waiter. Johan helps Ester track Anna down Anna and Anna and the waiter proceed to make love a third time provoking a violent and biter argument between the sisters.

33 x 47 inches non-archivally mounted on board.
