Bardot is amply represented in red and green variants 10 stamps per sheet also with an image of the Eiffel Tower. Produced by the Towa Corporation Japan with "BB" and film titles in Japanese represented. The film was released in Japan in December about one week after the French premiere. Scarce and cool Bardot ephemera and a unique Japan-France collaboration circa 1957-1958. <br /> <br /> Boisrond's fourth directorial credit is a comedy starring Bardot as the flirtatious daughter of the prime minister of France who marries a member of the cabinet Vidal who happens to be a womanizer. Stowaway in the Sky Le voyage en ballon Archive of original photographs and ephemera from a press gala for the 1960 film
Strasbourg France: Jean Jungmann 1960. Archive of 5 vintage single weight press photographs from a press gala for the 1960 French film here under the original French title. All rubber-stamped on the verso crediting photographer Jungmann and all but one show director Lamorisse on-stage behind a microphone with an official from the gala with one photo featuring smiling colleagues seated at a dining table. Housed in an original Jungmann mailing envelope addressed to Maryse Martres in manuscript ink with a memo on Cinedis parchment from "F. Willkomm" signed by him in manuscript ink and dated December 30 1960 noting that the images portray Lamorisse while he visited Strasbourg for the gala. Also included is a carbon typescript letter from Martres to Lamorisse citing the inclusion of travel tickets to Strasbourg and Marseilles and various press events to occur. A welcome addition to the director's mostly unseen oeuvre. <br /> <br /> Little is known of Willkomm but the memo does bear his rubber-stamp crediting him as the Cinedis director of the Strasbourg location. Martres Martin was a prolific French actress since 1948 notably "Girl on the Third Floor" 1955 and "The Happy Road" 1957 and she was later involved in press relations at Cinedis a notable film agency in operation since the Silent Film era. Kishi was born in 1932 and became a Japanese actress and writer. She married director Ciampi in 1957. Since 1996 she has been a Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations Population Fund UNFPA. Photographer Jungmann is equally obscure but seems to have been prolific in the 1960s mostly for press relations. <br /> <br /> Director Lamorisse starred his own son Pascal as a boy who stows away on his grandfather's Gille hot-air balloon that is less controllable than suspected. They narrowly escape church spires and snag clotheslines and party guests Pascal enjoying every minute. Lemmon narrated the English version and subsequently bought the rights to the film. Winner of an OCIC Award at the 1960 Venice Film Festival. <br /> <br /> Photos 5 x 7 inches small white borders Near Fine. Envelope and memo slightly larger Very Good plus overall. Set in 1890s Paris Henri Danglard Gabin is the owner of a cafe where his mistress Lola Felix performs as a belly dancer. With the cafe nearly bankrupt Henri inspired by an old-fashioned cancan in Montmartre decides to add a new dancer to revive his business. Cue a laundress named Nini Arnoul who soon finds fame at the Moulin Rouge. <br /> <br /> François Truffaut's review in "Arts" magazine May 1955 was highly supportive even though other critics like Bernard Chardere criticised the music the sets even the final cancan scene. Manuscript ink on front wrapper noting title screenwriter Leonardo Bercovici and a story based on Nathaniel Hawthorne's 1860 novel. <br /> <br /> Bercovici's screenwriting credits include; "The Bishop's Wife" in 1947 starring Cary Grant Loretta Young and David Niven and "Portrait of Jennie" in 1949 starring Jennifer Jones and Joseph Cotten. His other films included "Racket Busters" in 1938 "Chasing Danger" in 1939 "Monsoon" in 1953 and two foreign films that he produced and directed as well as wrote "Square of Violence" in 1963 and "Story of a Woman" in 1970. Bercovici was blacklisted during the McCarthy era losing his US passport regaining it in 1956 and then moving to Europe for several years. Bercovici later became a respected teacher of writing at UCLA and the American Film Institute work that he continued until shortly before his death. <br /> <br /> Set in Rome. <br /> <br /> Red untitled wrappers. Based on the 1927 novel by Hermann Hesse. <br /> <br /> A depressed half-man half-animal played by Max von Sydow is introduced to the hallucinogenic world of the "Magic Theater" where he seeks redemption via a metaphysical transcendence. The film took seven years of complicated pre-production to create including building a relationship with the Hesse family in order to acquire the rights. While "Steppenwolf" is a precisely-realized film replete with Jungian symbols and created with some of the best special effects available at the time the film has remained somewhat obscure due to problems with its marketing and distribution including the color of the prints having been incorrectly developed. <br /> <br /> Set in 1920s Germany shot on location in Germany and Switzerland. <br /> <br /> Black titled Studio Duplicating Service wrappers with credits for novelist Hermann Hesse. Title page present dated April 1971 with credits for screenwriter Fred Haines. 104 leaves with last page of text numbered 103. Mimeograph duplication with blue undated revision pages throughout.
