Whether or not the jokes will make a modern reader laugh, the book is a valuable source for those seriously interested in a religion or a culture that all too often but unjustly is associated, by outsiders, with an aversion to laughter.

Cosa significa esattamente questo termine e come viene utilizzato? Quale è la sua storia e come viene "vissuta" oggi? (Sono tutte domande apparentemente scontate e di cui ognuno di noi sembra possedere le risposte, ma siamo proprio sicuri che sia così? Questo saggio si propone di analizzare la questione fondamentale legata alla sua storia, all'uso che di questo termine è stato fatto dal passato fino ai tempi moderni, per riportare alcune testimonianze pervenute fino a noi da quei campi di battaglia ormai divenuti tristemente noti in tutto il mondo.
