Officials moved valuable artworks--including thousands of sumptuous Qur'an (Koran) manuscripts and loose pages dating from the 7th to 17th century--to Istanbul to ensure their safety. Penned by celebrated calligraphers and embellished by skilled illuminators and bookbinders, these manuscripts are now housed in the Museum of Turkish and Islamic Arts (Türk ve slam Eserleri Müzesi or TIEM) in Istanbul, established in 1914. This story unfolds in "The Art of the Qur'an: Treasures from the Museum of Turkish and Islamic Arts," the companion publication to the Arthur M. Sackler Gallery's groundbreaking exhibition, the first major presentation of Qur'ans in the United States. The book's authors describe the formation of this one-of-a-kind collection and the history of TIEM, whose centuries-old records on patrons, calligraphers, illuminators, and provenance allow us to create "biographies" detailing the production of the Qur'ans in the exhibition. ‎br. Il concetto di femonazionalismo, coniato da Sara R. Farris in questo libro, è già diventato una categoria analitica di riferimento per molte pubblicazioni e dibattiti femministi. Una cornice teorica per leggere un fenomeno inaspettato dell'epoca contemporanea: l'uso da parte dei partiti di estrema destra della rivendicazione dell'uguaglianza di genere per portare avanti politiche islamofobe e razziste. Oggetto di indagine sono le strategie comunicative della Lega di Matteo Salvini, del Front National francese di Marine Le Pen e del Pvv di Geert Wilders nei Paesi Bassi. Le loro retoriche insistono sull'idea che gli uomini migranti siano un pericolo per le società occidentali dato il loro atteggiamento oppressivo verso le donne. Una narrazione di cui troviamo ricorrenze storiche nelle politiche coloniali impegnate a rappresentare gli uomini Altri come minacce sessuali e le donne Altre come proprietà dei "salvatori" bianchi. Ma il femonazionalismo è una ideologia che scaturisce da un'inedita intersezione tra nazionalisti, politici neoliberisti e alcune associazioni femministe e donne delle istituzioni. Una convergenza che nasce dalla volontà di mantenere la catena materiale della produzione e della riproduzione sociale. Nascondendo le disuguaglianze strutturali dietro conflitti culturali il femonazionalismo contribuisce alla riorganizzazione neoliberista del welfare. Se gli uomini migranti sono accusati di "rubare il lavoro" o essere dei "parassiti del welfare", le donne migranti invece permettono agli europei e alle europee di lavorare nella sfera pubblica garantendo quel lavoro di cura che le ristrutturazioni neoliberiste hanno mercificato: lavori domestici, baby sitting e assistenza per anziani e disabili. Ne viene fuori una contraddizione di fondo: si sostiene di voler emancipare le donne non occidentali relegandole in quella sfera lavorativa da cui i movimenti femministi hanno storicamente cercato di liberare le donne. E riducendo il tema dei diritti di genere a uno scontro di civiltà si legittimano le molteplici forme di oppressione che ancora colpiscono le donne.‎

‎"Contrairement à l'idée selon laquelle les femmes musulmanes occuperaient une place subalterne dans l'islam, l'étude de leurs pratiques religieuses révèle qu'elles peuvent non seulement participer à la vie religieuse de leur communauté mais également y exercer des fonctions d'autorité. Fruit d'une expérience individuelle et d'un travail d'enquête de terrain mené dans diverses régions des cinq pays de l'Asie centrale postsoviétique (Ouzbékistan, Kazakhstan, Kirghizistan, Tadjikistan, Turkménistan), ce livre vise à dégager le rôle des acteurs sociaux féminins dans la religion musulmane. À partir de l'exemple centre-asiatique, il se propose de mettre en lumière le statut des femmes dans l'islam vécu et la spécificité de leur rapport à la religion. Au-delà de la question des femmes musulmanes, cet ouvrage apporte une contribution à l'islam centre-asiatique.
