A picture of this book is availa Royal Geographical Society p. 119. Cox i, 42. National Maritime Museum 92, 93, 95 [referring to the 1729 edition]. Relating to Volume I, Hill 75: 'Dampier was the best known and probably the most intelligent of the famous group of buccaneers that tormented the Spaniard in the South Seas from 1680 to 1720. his industry in taking notes of all he saw was equaled by his pains in preserving them from destruction. His first voyage took him from Virginia to Spanish America and across the Pacific to the East Indies. He traveled extensively in the orient on several voyages which lasted from 1683 to 1691. It was on one of these trips that the first landing was made by the English on Australian shores'. Dampier, an English buccaneer and explorer and one of the more colorful characters sailing in the 17th and 18th centuries, published his various experiences sporadically. He was the first English navigator to assemble a natural history collection. His first book appeared in 1697 followed by another in 1699, and a third in 1703, each volume issued separately and independent of the others. A folding map in volume I is a double hemisphere map of the globe. This set contains the material written by Dampier himself.

Dan Boothby
Island Of Dreams : A Personal History of a Remarkable Place
Picador UK 2015. Reprint. Hardcover. New/New. Hardcover. 296 pages. PUBLISHING DETAILS: Picador UK 2015. Reprint. CONDITION: The book itself is in new condition and comes in new dust jacket. More specifically: Boards have no wear rubbing or soiling. Dust jacket is in excellent condtion. . Pages are clean and unmarked and in excellent condition. ABOUT THIS BOOK: Dan Boothby had been drifting for more than twenty years without the pontoons of family friends or a steady occupation. He was looking for but never finding the perfect place to land. Finally unexpectedly an opportunity presented itself. After a lifelong obsession with Gavin Maxwell's Ring of Bright Water trilogy Boothby was given the chance to move to Maxwell's former home a tiny island on the western seaboard of the Highlands of Scotland. Island of Dreams is about Boothby's time living there and about the natural and human history that surrounded him; it's about the people he meets and the stories they tell and about his engagement with this remote landscape including the otters that inhabit it. Interspersed with Boothby's own story is a quest to better understand the mysterious Gavin Maxwell. Quantity Available: 2. Category: Travel & Places; ISBN/EAN: 9781509800759.
