A picture of this book is available upon r A narrative of the author's travels in Crimea and her stay in village of Karagoss, for four years ending March 1920. The author based the book on a series of letters she wrote to a friend during her stay, and describes the people, customs, conditions, etc. Atabey 587. Robinson 240: 'Objective, factual and thorough. . . with a clear and unprejudiced eye, telling us plenty about the land and its people but nothing about herself'. The Crimean Tatars (Tartars) with whom she lived treated her and her children who were with here, with unfailing courtesy.

A picture of this book is available upon request by email. The author travelled throughout Granada (now Columbia and Panama) from 1852-1854, and is the best travel work on the area from that time, covering all aspects of life, description of the country, peoples, customs, nature, geography, etc. Smith H120: 'The author, a botany professor, made a trip to northern South America to fill in geographical and botanical data about the area in the mid-nineteenth century. It is a long and comprehensive book with most emphasis on what he saw, rather than on botany.' Griffin 5134: 'An abbreviated second edition (1967) cut the text to less than half its length and omits the 11 appendices. For scholarly use the original edition is essential.' Sabin 32661. Welch 82.
