Ce regard que l'on pourrait qualifier d'ethnologique détonne à une époque où la certitude et la prééminence de la religion chrétienne interdit toute analyse des cultures exotiques. Les gravures qui illustrent cet ouvrage sont à ce titre intéressantes et spectaculaires.
