With many engravings on steel each tissue-guarded plus woodcuts. Tanning to some end papers and to edges of each engraving. 230pp. The story of how religious persecution forced a group of religious adherents, who came to be known as the Pilgrim Fathers from and around Scrooby in Nottinghamshire, England and some from Hollannd to travel to New England as founders of the state of America. An appendix describes the establishment of the Massachusetts colony.

Il se rendit au Chili par le Cap Horn, au Pérou, au Panama, puis enfin au Mexique en longeant les côtes. Le capitaine possédait un sens du récit fort vif et entraînant qu'il mit à l'épreuve dans d'autres voyages qu'il entreprit pour son propre compte, notamment en Amérique du nord. In-4, reliure d'éditeur en plein maroquin vert, richement ornée de filets dorés, dos à 5 nerfs orné de caissons dorés, tranches dorées, roulette dorée sur les coupes, deux petites galeries de vers sur le premier plat, quelques frottements au dos et quelques marques marginales sur les plats. Page de titre gravée (piédestal de la colonne de la place Vendôme), 64 planches en noir gravées sur acier, sous serpente, accompagnées d’un texte explicatif en anglais et en français, rousseurs éparses dans les marges, serpentes brunies, page de titre en impression claire. Table des gravures en début d'ouvrage. Le capitaine Robert Batty était un officier anglais et un artiste. Ex-libris manuscrit page de garde. Première édition. Bien complet de ses 64 planches gravées sur acier, bon exemplaire.
