Nasceva un modello organizzativo di riferimento per le accademie nazionali di molti paesi, fino ai nostri giorni. A rich inedited documentation illustrates how the organization model of the ?Institut?, created in France in 1795, was transferred to the Napoleonic Europe: to Italy, Holland and Spain. The ?Institut? gathered the most illustrious scholars of science, letters and arts, ensuring sites and public financing. The traditional hierarchy among the disciplines was surmounted and the egalitarian ideals of the ?Enyclop?die? were achieved. HARDCOVER bound in contemporary cloth and marbled boards original printed wrappers laid-down old shelf tickets to spine old military institutional stamps to title. In a very good condition fine maps the large one practically unopened and unused. ~ FIRST EDITION. Undated but 1911 OCLC WorldCat published just a short year after the manoeuvres took place. Rare. Only 3 institutional holdings are located two of which are in the Netherlands one at BnF. A blueprint for the use of artillery in WW1. The recently set French doctrine could now be tested in the Picardy manoeuvres of 1910. Two army corps took part each of five brigades and a cavalry division. The army corps had a new 30-battery artillery establishment. As a side dish the manoeuvres offered the first large-scale opportunity for pilots to practise alongside ground troops with 13 aeroplanes plus four dirigibles taking part. Percin's book was translated into English by US General Staff as "The artillery at the Picardy Manoeuvres in 1910". General Alexandre Percin 1846-1928.
