‎Reclining Fragments, Ritsart Gobyn's second book is the sequel to In Between and, as if by some miracle, thus completes the sentence: 'In Between Reclining Fragments'. Where In Between still hesitated between indicating place or time, the complete sentence 'In Between Reclining Fragments' seems to indicate a place: somewhere between reclining fragments. But in the conversation between Ritsart and Maarten Inghels - the author of the text accompanying the book - it is again emphatically about time: "'As you move closer and distance yourself again, a passage of time is created,' you said. 'That back-and-forth movement of your perception makes it interesting.'" The book forms the second volume on the artist's work and contains almost all the works the artist made from late 2020 to mid-2023, including the room views of 'Prologue', the exhibition at PLUS-ONE gallery, where the book will be introduced. Consistently, Ritsart continues to build an evocative and tactile oeuvre in which he increasingly challenges the viewer's perception and causes the gaze to slow down. More than in the first book - with works from 2017 to 2020 - the artist incorporates fragments/citations of other artists into his paintings, raising the question of what motivations preceded that choice. Does Ritsart neutralise the works of grandmasters by painting them alongside tape, paper scraps and dirty footprints, or does he instead pay homage to his pictorial heroes? ‎De Collectie Dhondt-Dhaenens, een voorstelling is de nieuwe collectiecatalogus van het museum Dhondt-Dhaenens en toont de 130 kunstwerken die werden geschonken door Jules en Irma Dhondt-Dhaenens aan de zelf opgerichte stichting, en bij uitbreiding aan de hele Vlaamse Gemeenschap. De catalogus wordt geconcipieerd rond een fotoconcept dat de fysieke omgang met de collectie zichtbaar maakt. Het boek wordt een theatervoorstelling met schilderijen, tekeningen en sculpturen, die als acteurs worden ingezet in wisselende scènebeelden. Clusters van werken worden samengesteld, op de museumvloer gelegd en gefotografeerd. De figuranten die de werken vasthouden en verplaatsen nemen deel aan de scènische voorstelling en worden in de fotografische registratie opgenomen. Naast de opnames van de clusters worden in een aparte sectie een 25-tal topwerken paginagroot gereproduceerd. ‎In Demoen's work, things are not entirely like Richard Wolheim once objected to Ernst Gombrich, claiming that in the case of a theory of the double, our attention must be divided between two things or issues. There is more going on and down for that matter. Demoen (b. 1965) presents collages with cut-up echoes, which in their fragmented state function as motif-protagonists in a mise en scène that has fallen on its back and has not found its place yet. The studio, geometry, magazine sensationalism and the art history book are cut up and practised while dancing, as if the artistic practice were a lost nightclub with entering daylight that is used as outfit. Demoen dances the gesture till it blindly follows the work of art. (.) The scattered motifs have been cut up. They show how in the Western tradition beauty was defined by the sublime, and no design could cope with that, unless it becomes ornamental and at a certain moment also boring if radiation is impossible. When things get out of hand, a gesture playfully tries to regain control. One by one, the cards are played on the worktable. They are presented to the spectator and hidden from our glance by another playing card. The memory of the spectator is exercised, stimulated, annoyed and teased. What makes the whole thing mysterious, is that despite all the historical references in Demoen's work, the reference as such is thrown back on its own, though it is like a collection of ellipses and ovals." ‎Arnaud (°1977), is een veelzijdig kunstenaar: hij maakt tekeningen, keramisch werk, schrijft poëzie maar is ook actief als danser en performer. In elk van die media blinkt zijn werk uit in het verbergen, weglaten, vertragen, pauzeren, verzuimen of verstillen. In dans en in theater herkennen we de kunstenaar Arnaud die in de stilte de kreet onderstreept. Door te vertragen laat hij het publiek van beweging dromen. De kracht van Arnauds tekeningen ligt veelal in de ruimte die hij niet tekent. De tekening zijn met een heel zacht potlood getekend en ogen daardoor heel breekbaar. Arnaud gaat op een zeer gevoelige manier om met zijn media. Zijn werk komt met heel veel concentratie en geduld tot stand. Zijn keramisch werk bestaat o.a. uit bustes van personages die het midden hielden tussen mens en dier, waarbij enige sprookjesachtige connotatie nooit ver weg was. Voor dit boek maakt de uitgever een uitgekiende selectie van zelfportretten en tekeningen van mensen uit Arnauds omgeving. Elke tekening staat alleen op een pagina, soms tegenover een andere tekening maar soms ook helemaal alleen. De keuze voor veel ruimte is bewust, we willen geen overvloed aan tekeningen tonen.‎

‎In this edition of 'Phoebus Focus', no less than three specialists examine two of the sketches that Baroque master Abraham Van Diepenbeeck made for the stained-glass windows of the Antwerp St. Paul's Church. The stained-glass windows themselves have not survived the ravages of time and so these sketches are invaluable for the reconstruction of the church's original interior. Madeleine Manderyck (1952) studied antiquity and art history at the University of Leuven and took a postgraduate course in heritage preservation at the Hoger Architectuur Instituut van het Rijk in Antwerp. Since 1976, she has worked for the Flanders Heritage Agency of the Flemish government. She was responsible for cases related to historical interiors, with a specialization in stained glass window art. She is the chairwoman of the Flemish and Belgian committee of Corpus Vitrearum. This is an international research project under the auspices of the Union Académique Internationale with the aim of studying monumental stained glass windows worldwide. Jan Van Damme is an art historian and a member of the Corpus Vitrearum Medii Aevi, which is dedicated to the study of stained glass window art. Zsuzsanna van Ruyven-Zeman (1953) studied art history at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. In 1990 she obtained a doctorate for her thesis on the painterdesigner Lambert van Noort (c.1520-1570/1571). She specialized in Dutch art of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, and has published articles and exhibition contributions on many aspects of it, with an emphasis on stained glass window art and drawings. She is the author of the volumes of Corpus Vitrearum on the stained glass windows in Gouda and in the Netherlands before 1795, and of the ten-volume catalogue of the prints of the Wierix family in the Hollstein series. She is an independent researcher.‎

‎Kunstenaar Kris Martin breng in het Kasteel van Laarne een groep van tien hedendaagse Belgische kunstenaars samen in een groepstentoonstelling onder de titel NADIR. Het nadir (van het Arabisch nathir, 'tegenovergesteld') is in de astronomie het punt dat recht tegenover het zenit staat: het punt recht onder de waarnemer. Voor Martin is het een metafoor: kijken naar wat er is, naar de kern gaan. Maar ook: als Belgische kunstenaar werken met de unieke locaties die ons land te bieden heeft. In die zin is de tentoonstelling een voortzetting van de tentoonstellingen die Martin eerder initieerde. Hij besloot om voor NADIR het kruim van de Belgische kunstscene te selecteren: de generatie kunstenaars die hem zelf gevormd en beïnvloed hebben, op artistiek of vriendschappelijk vlak. Zijn persoonlijke pantheon, als het ware. Dat verklaart ook het enigmatische beeld bij de tentoonstelling: een satellietfoto genomen recht boven het Pantheon.
