Tissot in seinem Werk "L'inoculation justifiée" aus dem Jahr 1754 erörterte betreffen die ersten sechs ethische und religiöse Argumente . Tissots Hauptargument für die Impfung war die Möglichkeit den Verlauf der Krankheit zu kontrollieren. Die Pocken selbst seien eine milde und nicht sehr gefährliche Krankheit argumentierte er. Was sie tödlich machte waren die Umstände. Das Alter und die Konstitution des Patienten sowie die Jahreszeit und die Wetterbedingungen nicht zuletzt die Luft trugen alle zum Risiko zur Unsicherheit und zu bösartigen Fällen bei. Die Impfung löste diese Probleme da sie es ermöglichte das am besten geeignete Alter und die beste Jahreszeit auszuwählen und die Patienten entsprechend ihrer individuellen Konstitution darauf vorzubereiten. Dennoch warnte Tissot auch vor Maßnahmen die die Krankheit zu leicht machen könnten - in solchen Fällen schütze die Impfung nicht vor weiteren Anfällen der Krankheit behauptete er." A.
