Chorazykiewicz is a long-time Polish wreck excavator and relic collector who it happens has recovered a large quantity of World War II aircraft partspredominantly German and devoted considerable study to them. The present book has arisen out of the author's unearthing of relics remaining from a USAAF Fifteenth AF fighter attack on and destruction of 21 Ju 87 Stukas in the vicinity of Jaroslaw Poland on 25 July 1944. This attack and the aviation archaeology it spawned decades later are the focus of Chorazykiewicz's 181-page presentation. Conceptually Slaughter of the Stukas bears a fair resemblance to the well-known After the Battle series in that it offers a textual narrative of events accompanied by a host of photographs maps diagrams and graphics. Most of the photos some in colour are of broken bits and pieces of Stukas some showing 0.50 cal. holes in them. Alone these would probably attract little interest but the author also has diligently researched Luftwaffe aircraft handbooks and other sources for identification and commentary on the artifacts. A good deal of effort has been given to reconstruction of the events and to matching claims and victims. Much to the author's credit his sources are carefully and properly listed on pp.177-181. Many contemporary illustrations especially Stuka handbook drawings are reproduced in the book along with a substantial number of USAAF and Luftwaffe documents bearing on the one-sided battle. Documentation includes reproductions of NVLM for nine of the Ju 87s destroyed on 25 July along with combat reports of the USAAF fighter pilots involved in the shoot-downs.
