"The company was founded as the Taylor Brothers Aircraft Manufacturing Company in September 1927 by Clarence Gilbert Taylor and Gordon A. Taylor in Rochester New York. The company was renamed Taylor Brothers Aircraft Corporation in April 1928 shortly before Gordon Taylor died in an aircraft accident on April 24 1928. The company was enticed to move to Bradford Pennsylvania with the promise of larger facility and investment capital from local businessmen including an initial investment of $400 from local oil industry engineer William T. Piper. The move was completed in September 1929. In late 1930 the company filed for bankruptcy and William T. Piper purchased the assets of the company for $761. Reorganized as the Taylor Aircraft Company Piper effectively took control of the firm when he assumed the position of corporate secretary-treasurer although he retained C. G. Taylor in the role of president. Piper often called the "Henry Ford of Aviation" firmly believed a simple-to-operate low-cost private airplane would flourish even in the darkest depths of the Great Depression. "Northrop Corporation was a leading United States aircraft manufacturer from its formation in 1939 until its 1994 merger with Grumman to form Northrop Grumman. The company is known for its development of the flying wing design most successfully the B-2 Spirit stealth bomber.The parent company moved its operations to Kansas in 1931 and so Jack along with Donald Douglas established a "Northrop Corporation" located in El Segundo California which produced several successful designs including the Northrop Gamma and Northrop Delta. However labor difficulties led to the dissolution of the corporation by Douglas in 1937 and the plant became the El Segundo Division of Douglas Aircraft. Northrop still sought his own company and so in 1939 he established the "Northrop Corporation" in nearby Hawthorne California a site located by co-founder Moye Stephens. The corporation ranked 100th among United States corporations in the value of World War II military production contracts. It was there that the P-61 Black Widow night fighter the B-35 and YB-49 experimental flying wing bombers the F-89 Scorpion interceptor the SM-62 Snark intercontinental cruise missile and the F-5 Freedom Fighter economical jet fighter and its derivative the successful T-38 Talon trainer were developed and built. "Edgar Charles William Middleton 26 November 1894 � 10 April 1939 was a British playwright and author.When war broke out in 1914 he resigned his post and returned to UK taking up a commission in the 12th Essex Regiment as temporary Second Lieutenant on 11 November 1914. He relinquished his commission on 5 May 1915 to transfer into the Royal Naval Air Service RNAS where he was given a probationary commission as Flight Sub-Lieutenant. He trained and qualified in ballooning at Roehampton and observed the second bombardment of Ypres from an observation balloon. However he became ill when in Dunkirk and suffered a "serious mental breakdown". Lettering a bit faded but a very clean and attractive copy.Comes with three original photographs of a plane in service to the Lawson Air Line an unusual looking biplane with a very large covered cockpit at the front of the plane. This volume definitely is more than the cover would indicate. The ads in the back are a major clue although there is a hint in the publisher's notice: "The call of the Public for full information concerning the life and deeds of ALFRED LAWSON as well as the high prices asked and paid for books and documents relating to his connection with the establishment of the AIRCRAFT INDUSTRY and AIRLINES has created the necessity for this book."The book is primarily a compilation of other articles written by Lawson about the aviation world in general. But the ads in back tell another tale. One touts: "LAWSONOMY - Alfred Lawson - coined the word LAWSONOMY for his greatest work and has dissected the appellation as follows --- LAW - Stands for the procedure of God's Eternal acts. / SON - Stands for the continuity of the procedure of God's Eternal acts. / OMY - Stands for the process of the continuity of the procedure of God's Eternal acts." The next page introduces "The First Lawsonomy Baby. The Perfect Baby." and her parents ".who gave birth to a perfectly balanced physical and mental Baby."Another ad touts "Lawsonomy: The Base of Absolute Knowledge." It includes principles such as "Lawsonomy is based upon life as it is and not upon a theory of what it ought to be. Truth is Constructive and lives but falsity is destructive and dies. Truth is real and eternal but falsity is ephemeral and abortive. Truth breeds strength and intellect but falsity breeds weakness and smart-alick-ism." The symbol in the center of the page shows Lawsonomy at the center and everything eminating from it - music art heredity culture photography penetrability history radio drama prophecy navigation electricity evolution and much much more. At the bottom: "If it isn't Truth it isn't Lawsonomy."Born in 1869 Alfred Lawson declared his birth to be ".the most momentous occurrence since the birth of mankind." He claimed that he was "destined for greatness" and "If Lawson should die today posterity will honor and glorify him as no other mortal because he has given mankind the true base from which to start an edifice of super-knowledge of the universe and its laws."Lawson tried his hand at professional baseball failing as a player as well as on the business side his newly created leagues folding almost as quickly as they were started - one within a month. He then decided to publish two aviation magazines Fly and Aircraft although he knew nothing about publishing or aviation - and Lawson acknowledged that in 1908 only three men could fly - the two Wrights and Glenn Curtiss but he downplayed their accomplishments noting that the latter could only travel in short hops. He did however become the aircraft industry's most vocal "evangelist" touting air travel as the travel of the future.Lawson had many strange ideas including the notion that physics and economics were inseparable and one could not be understood without the other. His physics however was based on even stranger principles based on "Suction" and "Pressure" and including other principles such as "Penetrability" but he saw the concept of "Energy" as a complete fabrication and fallacy. Many other weird concepts flow from these such as achieving a balanced "state of maturity" in the body "Equaeverpoise" through a combination of diet hygiene rest and exercise that would allow one to live 200 years.In part because of his "success" - he failed at baseball he failed at running an airline his books do not appear to have flown off the shelves - by 1943 Lawson decided to found a school - devoted to studying Lawsonomy. Lawson's books were the only ones allowed on campus. The biggest problem was the program took years other problems include the usefulness of the studies!. One was expected to take interim exams in 10 and 20 years and a comprehensive exam after 30 years at which point one became a "Knowledgian." Unfortunately Lawson was the only Knowledgian at the time of his death and it took a Knowledgian to bestow that degree on others. ‎A large cloth-bound album 300 x 385 mm containing 478 original vintage gelatin silver photographs in three main sequences. One important series comprises approximately 240 images 85 x 135 mm relating to a journey by air in VH-UZU the first Cessna imported into Australia by MacRobertson Miller Aviation Company; it was registered on 2 September 1937‎

‎Several photographs that suggest an approximate date clearly show other unique aircraft; one of these is VH-UZX. There were in fact two aircraft registered VH-UZX in Australia. The first one a DH84 Dragon crashed at Croydon in the UK on 26 February 1938 before delivery to Australia. The second one a DH86 Express was registered in Sydney on 17 July 1940 to W.R. Carpenter & Co. Ltd.; it was impressed by the Commonwealth Government on 27 December 1940. It is clearly in civilian use in this album making the latter part of 1940 a likely date. Adding weight to this VH-UZU 'was used on the Adelaide-Whyalla run until late 1939 when it was flown to Perth and used by MacRobertson Miller Airlines on services in Western Australia' 'Airliners' website. There are seven photographs of aeroplanes mainly VH-UZU 76 photographs taken on the ground and 154 from the air. Identifiable or named places range from the Cairns Golf Links to the Sydney Harbour Bridge and the Norseman Hotel but the bulk of the aerial views are interesting landscape features and developed areas in regional Australia. Featured in a few photographs are the passenger and pilot of VH-UZU; on the basis of one of them we seriously suggest that Captain Horrie Miller himself is the pilot. Another important series includes approximately 85 photographs generally 65 x 90 mm or the reverse of mining activities. Some feature large operations including twelve taken underground but the best of them depict much more small-scale activity. Captions in pencil on the verso of some images dated March 1935 identify alluvial diggings and the WMC drill at Yellowdine approximately 400 kms east of Perth; gold was discovered in the region in 1934. Londonderry near Coolgardie is also featured. Conditions depicted are at best basic at times primitive and ensure that these images of the early days of the development of a goldfield are nothing less than fascinating. At the beginning of the album there are 88 snapshots 110 x 70 mm or the reverse printed by 'Q'land Camera Co. Cairns' of tourist attractions in presumably the Cairns region. unknown‎
