Avro (A.V. Roe & Company) was founded in 1910 and disappeared in 1963 when it was absorbed into Hawker Siddeley Aviation. Between these dates it flourished as one of the largest and most respected aircraft manufacturers in the world, creating RAF trainers during WWI, the Anson in 1935 and the mighty Vulcan V-bomber of the 1950s. Most famous of all, of course, is a bomber called the Lancaster.‎
