‎Anatolian travels 19th century.= Périples Anatoliens XIXe siècle.= Anadolu seyahatleri, 19. yüzyil.‎

‎New English Paperback. Pbo. 4to. (29 x 24 cm). In English, French, and Turkish. 267 p., ills. Anatolian travels 19th century.= Périples Anatoliens XIXe siècle.= Anadolu seyahatleri, 19. yüzyil. This exhibition is the second phase of a series of exhibitions dedicated to the eastern routes of travelers. The series began with "Smyrna in the 18th and 19th Centuries: A Western Perspective", organized at the Arkas Art Center in 2013. The first exhibition looked at Izmir as a beginning point of the journey by exhibiting works and documents that were left behind by travelers, while this exhibition foregrounds the scientific missions of the French, looking at Anatolia as seen by Western travelers beginning their journey in Izmir. This exhibition looks at the information gathered from travel books, documents, photographs, etchings, and portraits to offer a comparative perspective on 19th century Anatolia¿s social, economic, and cultural structure. The exhibition¿s perspective is critically distant to the Orientalist viewpoint that betrayed the East for the sake of aesthetic and cultural goals; the aim is to prioritize the contributions of scientific expeditions to show the reality of the East. The expedition route begins in Izmir and goes through Western Anatolia, the Mediterranean, Eastern Anatolia, Troy, Bursa, Istanbul, Ankara, and the Black Sea region‎

Along with being a rich art collection for the museums, the large number of portraits where the foreigners pose in Turkish costumes in their homeland after fighting with the Turks, showing how "Fear from the Turks" converted into a fascination, and the goods from the Ottomans that are either gained from wars, received as presents or bought, and the important role that they played in the European social life have always been interesting subjects for historians and other social researchers. ‎Places of memory.= Hafiza mekânlari. [Exhibition catalogue]. Curated by Murat Tabanlioglu.‎

‎New New English Paperback. Pbo. Dust wrapper. 4to. (30 x 21 cm). In English and Turkish. 218 p. Color and b/w ills. "Exhibition catalogue of the Turkish Pavilion at the 14th International Architecture exhibition at Venice. The Turkish Pavilion was curated by architect Murat Tabanlioglu. The main idea behind "Places of Memory" is directly related to the concept designated by Koolhaas. Countries represented in the exhibition were asked to employ the theme "Absorbing Modernity: 1914-2014" and to show the process of the "erasure of national characteristics in favor of the almost universal adoption of a single modern language in a single repertoire of typologies." The idea is to show how the various architectural styles in the beginning of the 20th century eventually merged into a single style in most of the contemporary world. In "Places of Memory," Derinbogaz looks at the three locations chosen by Tabanlioglu from above, while Taptik goes indoors and offers photos that explore how architecture relates to the proportions of the human body. Taycan mainly focuses on the squares in the city and explores how the idea of public space is experienced by Istanbulites, while Özcan looks at decorative practices in and aesthetic qualities of semi-public locations. Sisman will create a sound installation based on the other artists' work. "Our focus in the exhibition is rather on the concept of place itself, incorporated with the subjective vision of every exhibitor in the team. The works interact with each other via different approaches based on different scales and mediums," Tabanlioglu said. "We chose not to write in advance the story that might emerge from this project. We will see the outcome together. This is a conscious decision that keeps us on edge, but one that also holds potential.".‎

‎School square: Galatasaray.= Mektep-meydan: Galatasaray. [Exhibition catalogue]. Edited by Çelenk Bafra, Ulya Soley, Begüm akkoyunlu Ersöz.‎

‎New English Paperback. 4to. (28 x 24 cm). In English and Turkish. 136 p., color and b/w ills. and photos, 1 folded panoramic color photo of the school. School square: Galatasaray.= Mektep-meydan: Galatasaray. [Exhibition catalogue]. Edited by Çelenk Bafra, Ulya Soley, Begüm akkoyunlu Ersöz. The exhibition takes on the name of "school" (mektep) in reference to the name of the institution still remembered as and called "the school" by its graduates even today, to the history of the building and its character as a place of education. This word play thus both references the Galatasaray Square with which the school is inextricably and necessarily intermeshed and envisages the structure of the Galatasaray High School with its garden and surrounding walls as an intellectual square where contemporary artists shall meet and debate. The site and context-specific works in the exhibition by the artists Elvan Alpay, biriken (Melis Tezkan, Okan Urun), Hera Büyüktasçiyan, Antonio Cosentino, Burak Delier, Hasan Deniz, Cemal Emden, Baris Göktürk, Ali Kazma and Vahit Tuna relate to the location, function, history and space of Galatasaray High School by means of painting, sculpture, installation, photography, video, sound and performance. Although the graduate artists of Galatasaray High School and the reflection of their personal experiences on their artistic practices have been considered valuable, room has been made for perspectives to be brought in by artists looking upon the school, an organic part of the city for 150 years, from the square - namely, from the outside, to those peeking in while passing by, and to those who perhaps live in its vicinity and have it in their thoughts. Rather than providing an art-historical selection of sorts, the School Square Galatasaray exhibition aims to gaze into the past from the vantage point of the present and pass on new works to the future. The exhibition catalogue presents three articles, which provides different perspectives on culture of Galatasaray. The curator of the exhibition Çelenk Bafra's essay on the relationship between the school and the square contextualizes the works in the exhibition. Besim F. Dellalglu presents his thoughts about what it means to experience Galatasaray High School. Murat Alat uses his personal experience to contemplate on the idea of school and education in a more general sense.‎

‎L'Europa vista da Istanbul. Mimesis, 1946.

Così come oggi.
