HACI MUHAMMED ES'AD.
[MARY OF ISLAM / PERSIAN MEVLID / SHIA] Mevlid-i Serîf-i Fatimatü'z-Zehrâ. Translated into Ottoman Turkish from Persian Ali b. Haci Esad.
Very Good Turkish, Ottoman (1500-1928) Original wrappers. Demy 8vo. (21 x 14 cm). In Ottoman script (Old Turkish with Arabic letters). 13 p. Lithographed. First Ottoman edition of this litho book describing the life of Hazrat Fatma in verse and poetically. It includes 74 couplets in 13 pages, written "fâilâtün fâilâtün fâilün" rhythm and translated by the son of the author named Ali b. Haci Esad. Fatimah al-Zahra bint Muhammad (605-632) was born to the Islamic prophet Muhammad and Khadijah. Sunni Muslims hold that Fatimah was the youngest of their daughters, whereas Shia Muslims maintain that Fatimah was the only biological daughter of the couple. Fatimah's husband was Ali, the fourth of the Rashidun Caliphs and the first Shia Imam. Fatimah's children include Hasan and Husayn, the second and third Shia Imams, respectively. Fatimah occupies a similar position in Islam that Mary, mother of Jesus, occupies in Christianity. She is often viewed as an ultimate archetype for Muslim women and an example of compassion, generosity, and enduring suffering. It is through Fatimah that Muhammad's family line has survived to this date. Controversy surrounds Fatimah's death, within six months of Muhammad's demise. Sunni Islam holds that Fatimah died from grief. In Shia Islam, however, Fatimah's (miscarriage and) death are viewed as the direct result of the injuries that she suffered during a raid on her house, ordered by the first caliph, Abu Bakr. Fatimah and her husband, Ali, had refused to acknowledge the authority of Abu Bakr. The couple and their supporters held that Ali was the rightful successor of Muhammad, appointed by him at the Event of Ghadir Khumm. Iranians celebrate Fatimah's birth anniversary on 20 Jumada al-Thani as Mother's Day. Not in OCLC.; Özege 13387.

HACI SADULLAH AGA, (1728-1801).
[SHEET MUSIC] Sedarabân murabba' Zincir ikâ'inda. Darü'l-Elhan Külliyati No. 1 [The House of Melodies Collected Works No. 1]. [With original personal stamp of Samli Iskender -Kudmanizâde-].
Very Good Turkish, Ottoman (1500-1928) Original sheet music. Folio. (35 x 25 cm). In Ottoman script. [4] p., scores. [SHEET MUSIC] Sedarabân Mürebb' Zincir ikâ'inda. Darü'l-Elhan Külliyati No. 1. Darülelhan (The House of Melodies) is not a real publishinghouse but a music school established at 10 January 1917, in Istanbul. The principle aim in the establishment of this school was to follow a scientific way in the education and teaching of musical arts, and introduce the old pieces by printing them. Some courses on Turkish and Western music should be given in a course of four years. This school closed in the days of Independence War and reopened by the attempts of Haydar Beg the mayor of Istanbul in 1923. On this publications, it's written usually "Our establishment started to publish the beautiful pieces inhereted from the most famous Turkish composers in order to conserve them. These publications are checked by a scientifically responsible council and found ass quite correct. Up to now, the pieces contining Setarabân, Mâye, Evç-ârâ, Acem Asirân, Müste'ar, Nevâ, Gulizâr, Beyâti, Mâhur, Ferâhfezâ, Ferâhnâk, Nev-eser, Nühüft and Arazbâr Buselik tones, havng the number 72 have already been put on sale for 5 Kurus at the magazine of Samli Iskender in Bayezid Square". (Source: Music publications from Ottoman Empire up to today, 1876-1986.; ALANER, BÜLENT). Haci Sadullah Aga was a composer and performer. He was the son of Hafiz Kerim Efendi, one of the muezzins of Fatih Mosque, and was one of the greatest composers of the reign of Sultan Selim III. In some sources, the information regarding his life have been jumbled together with other namesake composers of his era. Some of his works may have been confused with those of other namesake composers. Therefore, information regarding his life is not precise. As far as it is known, after his first education, he was accepted to Enderun Mektebi (The Palace School in which the devshirmeh [T.N. selected for the army] children were educated) and he was educated in literature and history and gained skill in javelin, Indian club and horse riding. He had served in the Russo-Turkish War in 1767. It is said that he received great attention from Selim III because he had a beautiful voice and he was a master singer (vocalist) and that he was the head of the fasil committee of the sultan for some time. Sadullah Aga, who is accepted as the most powerful composer of the school of Selim III, was also the 'musahib' (talk friend) of the sultan and later he became the head 'musahib'. He was an eloquent and cheerful person with a nice personality. He served as a music teacher at Enderun and served at the Palace during the reign of Mahmud II. Sadullah Agha followed the footsteps of Itrî and under the influence of Itrî he had integrated lyricism to his compositions, which are considered to be among the greatest pieces of the classical repertoire. He developed a style that is pertinent to classical rules but is more lyrical. His influence on all composers of his period can be seen. Around thirty works of Haci Sadullah Aga, who had composed hundreds of works, has reached the present day. Compositions and 'semaî' are dominant among these works. All of these works are secular and mostly literal works. His works contain a high level of lyricism and musicality. Especially all of his works that formed the 'Bayati-Araban' set are among the most beautiful examples of the classical music repertoire. Sadullah Aga, who is among the elite composers of Classical Turkish music, lived his last years by secluding to the residence given to him seven years before his death by the sultan and died at the age of seventy eight. He has many great songs in various tones. Darülelhan published 121 scores before 1928, this is the first one. Özege 3585. Not in OCLC. Extremely rare.

HAFIZ HÜSEYIN AYVANSARAYÎ, (?-1786).
[THE MOST IMPORTANT BOOK OF ISLAMIC BUILDINGS IN CONSTANTINOPLE] Hadikatû'-l cevâmî. 2 volumes set. [= Hadiqatul-gewami = The garden of the mosques].
Very Good Turkish, Ottoman (1500-1928) In contemporary Ottoman quarter burgundy leather bdg. with red boards. Gilt lettering of the title with some decorative elements and four raised bands to the spine. Large roy. 8vo. (25 x 16 cm). In Ottoman script. 2 volumes set: (310 p.; 264 p). Hadikatû'-l cevâmî. 2 volumes set. [= Hadiqatul-gewami = The garden of the mosques]. Occasionally foxing on boards, slight stains on paper. Otherwise a very good copy. First edition of this rare monumental two-volume set in which an inventory is kept of almost all architectural buildings such as mosques, masjids, fountains, schools, and lodges in Ottoman Istanbul and its surroundings, built since Sultan Mehmet II up to 1768, in a traveler style, by Ayvansarayî, who was hafiz and janissary sekban who lived in the 18th century. "This excellent book has an extremely important place in the literature not only in terms of architectural works and topography but also as a historical source of Constantinople". (Hammer). Long recognized by Turkish scholars as a unique source of Istanbul's architecture and urban form, the text, which was started in 1182 (1768-69) and completed in 1195/1780 and revised and enlarged between 1248/1832-33 and 1253/1838 by Ali Sati, son of Mahmud Efendi, one of the judges of Medina, contains separate descriptions of each of Istanbul's more than 800 mosques, plus accounts of its madrasahs, tombs, tekkes and other monuments. The annotations place each of these buildings within the city's urban plan and provide biographical information about the patrons, architects, and other personalities mentioned in the text. Ayvansarayi's original text, which survives in a number of manuscript copies, was enlarged in the 1830s by Ali Sati Efendi, whose reworking was published in print in 1865 and has thus become the best-known version of the Hadika. (Crane). The author, who first visited the mosques and masjids inside the city walls in a topographic order, then examined the ones outside the city walls, then discussed Eyüp, Galata, both sides of the Bosphorus, Üsküdar (Scutari), Kadiköy (Khalkedon) mosques and masjids. After giving the name of the building in each article, if a mosque was transformed from the church, he noted this issue and recorded the name of the person who had it built. If known, he also indicates where this person's grave is located. Detailed info about the restoration of the architectural building has been restored. And he gives detailed information on additional facilities such as a public fountain, sebil, school, madrasah, and in some cases the people who lie in its burial ground, with brief information about the foundation of this charitable building. Hegira 1281 = Gregorian 1865. Özege 6565.; Thirteen copies in the US libraries according to the OCLC.

Though born in Hamadan, he was the scion of a long line of divan secretaries and fiscal officers (mostawfi) from Faahan. He was related to Mirza Salman Farahani, secretary and confidant of Abu'l-Qasem Khan Na?er-al-Molk Hamadani, whose title Bayan-al-Sal?ana is apparently the origin of the family name (Bayani, A?wal o atar-e ?osnevisan, 2nd ed., Tehran, 1363 S./1984, introd. by ?. Ma?bubi Ardakani, p. 3). Bayani received his early education and training in calligraphy at the Aqdasiya and Asraf primary schools and, after graduating from the secondary school Dar al-Fonun, enrolled in the Dar al-Moallemin-e Ali (later Danes-sare-ye Ali; higher teachers' college). In 1324 sh./1945, Bayani received a doctorate in Persian literature from the University of Tehran. While serving as chief imperial librarian, Bayani also taught courses on the evolution of Persian scripts and on codicology. The Armenian Genocide Denied : A Response to Turkey's Thirteen propaganda Spins
"Anyone who has followed the Armenian national struggle to earn international recognition of the Genocide of Armenians is familiar with the Ankara propaganda machines boilerplate denials. Ms. Hajinians book, in addition to documenting the Genocide, lists thirteen of the most notorious distortions deployed by the Turkish side and then proceeds to demolish them, exposing them as patent falsehoods. Thus the litany of Turkish propaganda spins such as 'historians dispute the veracity of the Genocide of Armenians" 'its up to historians to decide what happened' 'the UN didnt acknowledge the Armenian Genocide,"the Armenian Genocide was not state planned," "the Turkish archives are open; Armenian archives are not, "Armenian deaths were a result of communal violence" and "Armenians collaborated with Turkeys enemies" are dissected and tossed into the rubbish heap through solid research and a deft touch. xii,294p. illus. maps. bibliography [3 copies found in Worldcat] Book

HAKAN ERTUGRAL.
History of chemistry in ancient Turks.
New English Paperback. Demy 8vo. (21 x 14 cm). In English. 176 p. Generally, outside of the academic word, nomads are not considered as the part of the civilization process. Most of the times, due to the Eurocentric thoughts that were developed in the 19th century, scientific and technological improvements of the humanity were considered unique to Europe. Therefore, other people that were conquered by European armies were thought that they were completely out of the civilization process and the lived as 'barbarians' because they did not live or think like Europeans. According to this view, if they will civilize or they can be considered as 'developed nation', they had to live like Europeans, at least, they had to have same cultural attitudes or they must mimic. This bias made hard to understand how other cultures lived and what they developed in their material culture. However, during the 20th century, this linear and positivist understanding of history have been changed. In this book, first of all intellectual process on scientific progress was evaluated and then, the place where the Turks could be placed in this progress was examined.

HAKAN ÖNIZ.
Akdeniz'in en büyük antik tersanesi Dana Adasi.
New Turkish Paperback. Roy. 8vo. (24 x 16 cm). In Turkish. 284 p., color ills. Akdeniz'in en büyük antik tersanesi Dana Adasi. "... The work at and around Dana Island (Pityoussa / Pityussa) yielded very important results with regards to archaeology. There is a modern lighthouse to warn seafarers about the shoal just off shore in the west. This shoal is about 50 cm. below the water surface and not visible in stormy weather, thus posing a great threat for seafarers. To the south-east of the shoal is a recently sunken modern ship at a depth of 25-35 m. covering a wide area at the bottom. Based on numerous wreck remains around the shoal, it is thought that this modern shipwreck currently conceals many other archaeological remains. In the vicinity of the lighthouse are numerous amphorae on the bottom and buried underneath the sand. The most significant find from this region is an iron ram used on ancient warships. Detailed underwater exploration around the island attested wrecks along the east, south and west coasts as well as anchors datable to the Bronze and Iron Ages and the Roman and East Roman periods. The most important outcome is the identification of structural remains under water by the coast on the mainland side of the island. Some of the remains belong to walls fallen because of an earthquake on the land. Some others are beaching sites hewn into rocks in the water (or on land but then submerged as the water levels rose)"...
