Paris: H. Laurens 1903. First edition. Leather. Very Good. 11.5" by 8.5". Dalou. The first edition of a biography on the celebrated French sculptor with numerous illustrations showcasing his work bound in quarter morocco. The first edition of Dalou: Sa Vie et son Oeuvre Dalou: His Life and Work a scarce biography and catalogue on the acclaimed French sculptor written by French journalist and historian Maurice Dreyfous. Published in 1903 a year after the sculptor's death. In quarter morocco with green marble boards. Contains a frontispiece of Dalou as well as all eight illustrated and numerous in-text illustrations. Collated complete. Celebrated for his realism and execution Dalou originally began sculpting working-class subjects and was exiled under the Second Empire to England due to his politics. Upon returning to France however he was celebrated for his works sculpting public monuments and later being made a Commander of the Legion of Honour. In quarter morocco with green marble boards. Externally rubbing to edges heaviest to extremities and a couple of grazes to boards. Slight rubbing to morocco joints and the odd small rubbing mark to spine. Minor fading to spine and slight bumping to head and tail and to the extremities. Marble end papers are bright and clean with minimal fading. Internally firmly bound. Pages are mostly bright and clean with slight age toning and the faint spot to extremities of the odd leaf. Very Good H. Laurens hardcover
