Being a vivid description of time and space, reflecting the structure of the period in which they were written, gives us the opportunity to look at history from a different perspective. In the past, traveling was an event in itself. Seas, mountains, and deserts were crossed, new places and people were met. Whether the traveler's writings are long or short, from ancient Troia to Troy at the beginning of the 20th century, what is written, drawn, observed, and perceived about the city and region are important documents. Rüstam Aslan was born in 1965 in Sivas, Turkey and graduated from the Istanbul University, Dept. of Prehistory, and obtained his PhD. in 2006 in Prehistoric Archaeology from the University of Tubingen (Germany), studying with Prof. Dr. Manfred Korfmann. He then started his academic career at Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University (Turkey) and currently continues to teach at the University as a professor. Since 1988 he has been a member of the excavations team at Troy, and between 2007 and 2011 he directed a survey project on the Troad that focused on recording and mapping the Bronze Age Settlements System around Troy. In 2013, he became Director of the Troy Excavations in northwest Turkey. His recent seminars have dealt with archaeological topography of the Troad and the Archaeology of Troy. He has published over 100 scientific papers and 12 books.

Until his death, he wrote 14 books on geography, most of which were geographical atlases. In 1941, he was among the founding members of the Turkish Geographical Society. In collaboration with the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Dd created an exhibition "The Nobels and Baku Oil" that was displayed at the Baku Museum Centre. The exhibition was dedicated to the 15th anniversary of the Contract of the Century and the 130 years since the Nobel Brothers opened their business in Baku. It told the story of the Nobel Company's accomplishments in Azerbaijan from 1874 to 1920 and its role in the economic, technological and social development of the region. The Nobel brothers - Alfred, Ludvig and Robert - once had with Baku. In fact, when the Nobel Prizes were established more than a century ago (1901), roughly 12 percent of the prize money was drawn from Alfred's shares in the Nobel Brothers' Petroleum Company in Baku. The Petroleum Production Company Nobel Brothers, Limited, or Branobel ("Nobel Brothers" in Russian), was an oil company set up by Ludvig Nobel and Baron Peter von Bilderling. It operated mainly in Baku, Azerbaijan, but also in Cheleken, Turkmenistan. Originally established by Robert Nobel (who contributed 25,000 rubles) and the investments of barons Peter von Bilderling (300,000 rubles) and Standertskjöld (150,000 rubles) as a distillery in 1876, it became, during the late-19th century, one of the largest oil-companies in the world. The Nobel Brothers Petroleum Company was an oil-producing company that had its origins in a distillery, founded by Robert and Ludvig Nobel in Baku in 1876, which, in 1879, turned into a shareholding company headquartered in St. Petersburg. The share capital of three million rubles was divided as follows: 53,7% Ludwig Nobel, 31,0% Baron Peter von Bilderling, 4,7% I.J. Zabelskiv, 3,8% Alfred Nobel, 3,3% Robert Nobel, 1,7% au Baron Alexandre von Bilderling. Pipeline transport was pioneered near Baku by Vladimir Shukhov and the Branobel company in 1878-1880. On 10 April 1902, the company signed a contract for the purchase of oil fields in Romany, which were owned by the oil producer Isabey Hajinsky. On 17 October 1905, in accordance with the Committee of Ministers, the company purchased the oil fields owned by oil producer A. Adamov. The company's fixed capital in 1914-1917 was 30 million rubles. By 1916, it was the largest oil company in Russia, producing 76 million poods of oil. Between 1877 and 1901, the company drilled over 500 wells, produced 150 million barrels of oil, and employed 12,000 workers.

Chipped on extremities of pages and cover, minor stains on edges. Otherwise a good copy. First and only edition of this first work in book form on Baku and Azerbaijani oil. After the occupation of the Republic of Azerbaijan by the Red Army, many Azerbaijani intellectuals such as Mehmed Emin Resûlzâde (1884-1955) sought refuge in Turkey, established a publishing house called "Milli Azerbaycan Nesriyâti" [i.e. National Azerbaijan Publication] in 1928, Istanbul, and to make the voice of Azerbaijanis heard in exile to influence world public opinion. This book was published as the 9th publication of this publishing house. It was printed in Orhaniye Printing house in 1928 and was actually composed of the articles written by the author in the "Azeri-Turk" magazine. The first article appeared in the issue dated 15 August 1928, with other articles following it. The book, in which Mehmed Emin Rasülzade also penned a presentation, consists of the chapters: The Role of Oil in the World War, Azerbaijan at the Genoa Conference, Azerbaijan at the Hague Conference, the American Rivalry in Britain, A Common Front against the Bolsheviks, the Pursuits of the Oil Competition. Compiled from Mehdiyev's articles, is not only a propaganda work against the Russian occupation but also the first in-depth work written on Baku and Azerbaijan oil. Many sources in the text are referenced in footnotes. Mehdiyev says that world politics is shaped by the economy and oil is the most important factor in this context. In addition to expressing how important it is for the First World War, he also makes predictions about how oil will shape world politics in the future. According to Mehdiyev, whoever dominates the world's oil reserves will be the strongest state in the world. Based on M. Fanning, Mehdiyev states that Azerbaijani and Baku oil has an estimated 8 million barrels of resource rather than Mexican, American, Turkish, and Iranian oil. This offprint from the Greek journal published in a long run from 1928 to 1961 in 24 volumes, examines the 14th-century coastline of the Byzantine Empire of Trebizond with toponyms and topography on two portolan maps of the period. "Bryer was a British historian of the Byzantine Empire and founder of the Centre for Byzantine, Ottoman, and Modern Greek Studies at the University of Birmingham. Part of his childhood was spent in Jerusalem and he was acquainted with Sir Steven Runciman, historian, and Byzantine Scholar. He initially remained at Balliol for his doctorate on the Empire of Trebizond, which he completed in 1967, but in 1964 he moved to the University of Birmingham where he created a program in Byzantine studies. In 1975 he founded the journal Byzantine and Modern Greek Studies. From 1976, he was the founding Director of the Centre for Byzantine Studies, and in 1980 he was appointed Professor of Byzantine Studies, a post which he held until 1999." (Wikipedia). Not in OCLC.

First and only edition of one of the earliest and extremely rare Ottoman Turkish book on electricity published after the proclamation of the Republic in Turkey. It's a complete guide to electricity including how to install power plants, generators, and their working principles, etc. One of the most important breakthroughs of the regime in the Republican period was the delivery of electricity to many cities and villages of Turkey after the proclamation of the Republic. The electricity question and energy policies were also reflected in the propaganda material of the Republican regime. After the Alphabet Revolution in 1928, after the very few electrical books written in Ottoman Turkish, many books, posters, brochures, and periodicals were published, especially in the 1930s... Hasan Enver Pasha was an Ottoman general. He was the son of Mustafa Celalettin Pasha a Polish convert to Islam and the daughter of Omer Pasha. Besides he was an avid defender of the belonging of the Turkish race to the European white races. He married Leyla Hanim, a daughter of Mehmed Ali Pasha (marshal). They had five children: Celile who became the mother of Nâzim Hikmet, Münevver who became the mother of Oktay Rifat, Mustafa Celalettin, Mehmet Ali, and Sara. Very Good Turkish, Ottoman (1500-1928) Contemporary (early 19th century) quarter brown cloth with marbled boards, "Yahudi ebrûsu" end-papers. Roy. 8vo. (23 x 16 cm). In Ottoman script (Old Turkish with Arabic letters). 90 p., numbered with Arabic numeric system in pencil, around seven illustrated schemes of magical diagrams. Written on a probably 17th-18th century European paper with "Crescent" watermark, naskh script with "harakât", black and red ink. Early and a rare posthumous manuscript copy of this 18th-century Islamic majmua, containing the treatment methods and drug compositions against physical and spiritual diseases, with material and magical suggestions, copied 32 years after the author's death by a "Hafiz" with an addendum of new drugs and treatments compiled from older annotations of this work. "In the first part of the work on spiritual medicine, verses, prayers, talismans, and magic formulas in the Islamic culture like "wafqs" that are believed to be treated; in the second part, on physical medicine, drug formulas from various material objects for physiological diseases are shown." (Çagrici). Harputî was an 18th-century poet and prose from Harput (Kharberd). In the introduction to the manuscript, he stated that he is not a doctor, but that he writes practices that can heal patients due to his experiences. Despite this, the text was widely used in Ottoman medicine in the 18th and 19th centuries.

Some markings on the two maps. Otherwise a very good copy. First edition of this scarce atlas for Turkish primary schools drawn and published by Turkish geographical educators and cartographers in the early Republican period of Turkey. This fine atlas was printed in London, in a period after the proclamation of the Republic, before the Letter Revolution in 1928. Duran studied in Istanbul and Paris. He worked as a geography teacher in various high schools then he became a lecturer and a manager at Ankara Gazi Education Institute for a while. He was known for his writings on various topics and especially for his works on geography. Born in the imperial period, Duran signed the first cartographic studies of the Republic of Turkey with the transition to the Republican administration. Özege 8764.

First and only edition of this extremely rare atlas in user guide form including the instructions and descriptions of the routes of vessels by an advisor of the British naval officer and German prince related to the British royal family, Prince Louis Alexander of Battenberg (1854-1921), who was the first Marquess of Milford Haven, commanded the Atlantic Fleet from 1908 to 1910 and became first sea lord in 1912. This book was translated by Nusret, who was a lieutenant in the Ottoman Naval Forces in its period and prepared only for use of Turkish naval officers. The plates include the maneuver plate of an officer named "Martin", who is not able to be recognized. Every map and plate depending on the current position of the ship has its own descriptive text. [6], [ii], 108 p., [36] maps in various sizes, some of folded: (62x47 cm, 52,5x45,5 cm, 49,5x27 cm [x3], 61x47 cm; other maps are 36x28 cm). Four unnumbered leaves with half-title and contents for each section. Two small millimetric cuttings on two text pages. Ex-owner's name is on the title page. Markings on the index. Otherwise a very good and clean copy. Rare complete and the first atlas including a fine collection of 36 attractive chromo-lithograph maps mostly with tissue papers of the Soviet Union, edited by the Central Executive Committee and Enukidze (1877-1937), who was a prominent Georgian "Old Bolshevik". One of 11000 copies. Being published only 10 years after the USSR was established, this is the earliest atlas of the country. It seems to have been published with a wider audience in mind, with a title page in various European languages. The borders of many areas -including not just administrative regions throughout the USSR, but also entire autonomous republics (especially in Central Asia)- were in a state of flux; as such, the borders in this Atlas (including the wax-paper overlays meant to update various maps with changes made between when they were drawn and when the Atlas was published) often don't look anything like the borders they were set at the end of the Soviet Union and have continued on to modern times. Since the boundaries were often ideologically- (sometimes ethnically-, less so economically-) motivated, this offers an interesting insight into the mindset of the administration that was making these changes. Rare Japanese woodblock print route map of the Saigoku Sanjusan-Sho (The Saigoku Kannon Pilgrimage) which is a pilgrimage of thirty-three Buddhist temples and the oldest Kannon pilgrimage in Japan and said to have been devised in 718 by the head priest known as Tokudo Shonin, who was a head priest at Hase-dera Temple in the Nara prefecture, throughout the Kansai region of Japan, similar to the Shikoku Pilgrimage, printed in early 19th century. In addition to the official thirty-three temples, there are an additional three known as Bangai. The principal image in each temple is Kannon, known to Westerners as the Bodhisattva of Compassion (or sometimes mistranslated as 'Goddess of Mercy'); however, there is some variation among the images and the powers they possess. 33 temples of the pilgrimage are marked and shown on the map and listed in a panel on the lower left located in Kyoto, Osaka, Nara and surrounding areas.
