Neale Gillian.
MILLER'S COLLECTING BLUE & WHITE POTTERY.
London: Miller's 2004. 160 pp small 4to 10 1/2" H. Profusely illustrated with colour photographs including marks. "Blue-and-white pottery has long proved a popular and accessible collecting area with hand-painted patterns in blue and white first being used to decorate ceramics in the 17th century by the Chinese. Since the technique of transfer-printing was introduced in the late 18th century a vast range of attractive yet affordable wares in numerous detailed patterns have been produced offering tremendous scope to collectors. Learning how to discern between the different forms and periods and uncovering the fascinating history behind the manufacture of the pieces is an intriguing and rewarding process. Dealer and expert Gillian Neale examines the many different strands of the blue-and-white theme by dividing the book into collecting by design by decoration by factory and by use. A comprehensive introduction to the invention and development of blue-and-white pottery is provided including the factory processes in manufacture. Over 350 full-colour photographs illustrate the diversity of blue-and-white pottery available at a wide range of prices with useful collecting information and advice highlighted throughout. Helpful tips are also given on how to care for and display your collection. Whether a beginner in the field or well-established collector this book provides the essential background information needed to build a successful collection." Dust jacket has two small light line indentations on rear panel. Hard Cover. Near Fine/Very Good. Miller's Hardcover
