"Designed primarily for progressive accordion schools that supply free student instruments with an introductory course." - from page 2. Inside front cover are pictures of Mr. Dressler's hand-picked teachers: Ken Day of Courtenay and Cumberland Jean Robson of North Vancouver Walt Miller of Victoria Ronnie Jajala Bette Kobe of Nanaimo and Ladysmith Wilf Trim of North Vancouver and June Elder of Sea Island and Lulu Island. The author is described as probably the only man in Canada who understands ever phase of the accordion business right from the actual manufacture to the final distribution of the instrument. In fact page 27 illustrates two accordions manufactured in Mr. Dressler's name by Bonimi Giuglio of Italy and their prices are surprisingly high. Above-average wear. Spine and corners covered in remnants of an earlier music manuscript; very faint marbled paper over boards. Paper label on front board with handwritten title: Violino II. The composer Johann Melchior Dreyer 1746-1824 published over 50 masses and requiems. This is opus 17 not the more common Sex Missae opus 2 which was printed in 1790. No publication information although it is most likely that this was printed in Augsburg by Lotter in 1801 opus 14 was published in 1800 and opus 18 in 1802. In Very Good- Condition: binding is rubbed but solid; old repairs to lower corner of most leaves with only minimal loss on pp. 43-44; soiling primarily in lower corners; a solid copy. Joh. An den Organisten, Kapellmeister und Komponisten Ignaz Assmayr: "Erlauben Sie mir Ihnen in Ueberbringerin dieser Zeilen eine ausgezeichnete und poetische Schülerin Fräulein Albertine Zadrobilek zur freundlichen Annahme zu empfehlen [...]". - Alexander Dreyschock trat schon im Alter von acht Jahren als Pianist auf, kam 1833 als Klavier- und Kompositionsschüler Wenzel Johann Tomascheks nach Prag und unternahm Gastspielreisen durch Europa. "Bei einer Tournee durch Deutschland 1858 besuchte er in Weimar und Kassel Liszt und Spohr" (DBE); 1862 folgte er einer Berufung als Professor des Klavierspiels an das neugegründete Konservatorium Anton Rubinsteins in St. Petersburg und „wurde dort zugleich Direktor der Theatermusikschule und russischer Hofpianist. Dreyschock wurde besonders durch sein Spiel mit der linken Hand berühmt; er hinterließ Klavierkompositionen für die linke Hand und veröffentlichte u. a. ein Streichquartett in A (op. 105, 1855)“ (ebd.).

Karte vom 15. muß ich Ihnen antworten, daß sowohl meine Mutter als auch ich von künstlerischen Grössen nur an uns selbst gerichtete Briefe besitzen, welche wir ihres privaten Inhaltes wegen nicht aus der Hand geben [...]". - Der Neffe des böhmischer Klaviervirtuosen und Komponisten Alexander Dreyschock war Lehrer am Sternschen Konservatorium und Pianist. Seine Klavierstücke "gehören zu einer Salonmusik besserer Art, zeichnen sich durch einen ebenso bequemen wie gediegenen Satz aus und erweisen sich als brauchbare Unterrichtsliteratur" (MGG III, 821).

Seid [!] der Zeit wo ich H. von Weyhrother [!] geschrieben, ist mein jüngstes Kind so erkrankt an einer Lungenentzündung daß nur der liebe Gott weiß wie es enden wird. Vielleicht erfahre ich mehr in einer halben Stunde da ich ein Consilium berufen. Wie dem auch ist Donnerstag kann ich nicht in Prag sein, sollte sich der Zustand besser gestallten [!], so werde ich Freitags [!] Abends hier wegfahren um Sonnabend bei Ihnen zu sein [...]". - Der Bruder des Klaviervirtuosen und Komponisten Alexander Dreyschock (1818-1869) war seit 1845 als zweiter Konzertmeister neben Ferdinand David am Gewandhausorchester in Leipzig sowie als Lehrer für Violine am Konservatorium tätig. 1851 heiratete er die Sängerin Elisabeth Nosé.

Separating along the bottom half of the fold and a bit at the top edgewear the number 18 written on the front cover and rubbing to the exterior still a very good and complete copy. For voice and piano. Plate imprint "The 17th of March. 4." The front cover features a black-and-white picture of Mr. & Mrs. Mark Murphy. The back cover features a sample of "I Never Thought I'd Miss You as I Do" by Richard Henry Buck and Theodore F. Morse. A song for St. Patrick's Day with lyrics that are a bit strange at times if not outright offensive comparing the Irish to other cultures and often framing the Irish as violent albeit in a glorified manner for instance "Unlike the Germans in their way he swings both left and right/For there ain't enough beer in the world to stop an Irish fight." An intriguing and seemingly rare piece of Irish-American sheet music. No physical holdings in OCLC and it appears to be equally scarce in the trade. F.B. Haviland unknown

Folio. Title, 30 pp. Brown ink on 12-stave paper, 4 systems of 3 staves per page. Sewn. Louis Drouet dedicated his arrangement of melodies from Donizetti's opera "Belisario" (1836) for flute and piano to his daughter Lina Drouet. The piece was intended to be performed as a "morceau de salon". - Often referred to as the "Paganini of the flute", Louis Drouet was one of the most celebrated flautists of his time. The son of an expatriate French barber in Amsterdam was an autodidact before entering the Paris conservatory at the age of seven. At 16, he was first flutist and teacher of Louis Bonaparte, then King of Holland. An international career as a flute virtuoso followed. Among his stage partners and friends was Felix Mendelssohn. In 1840, Drouet was appointed director of music by Ernest I, Duke of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha. - The title written in a different hand. Some foxing and browning; tears to the fold of the title-leaf.

Both bifolia notched and worn along the fold from once being bound within an album outer bifolium separating a bit at the ends of the fold light edgewear some light toning and light bumping to the corners very good or better. For voice and piano written in a French-Canadian dialect. Plate number 15866-6. The front cover features a black and white portrait of William Henry Drummond. Drummond was an Irish-born Canadian poet who was greatly inspired by the habitants and voyageurs he encountered when he worked in L'Abord-à-Plouffe in Quebec. "The Last Portage" is one of his most celebrated poems. OCLC locates only a single holding and it appears to be equally scarce in the trade. The John Church Company unknown
