Libretto: Quarto 186pp. Very good or better in pale green cardstock wraps with black cloth spine. Book: Octavo 97pp. Near fine - crisp and clean - with scant foxing to the fore-edge in a fine dust jacket. These two volumes celebrate Davidson's ambitious foray into opera. Davidson one of the Fugitive poets wrote this opera about WIlliam Walker a mid-19th century southern musician and music teacher. The libretto appears to be a mimeographed copy of Davidson's and Bryan's original score published in 1952 and very scarce indeed. This copy is also scarce as we found hardly any copies in the marketplace or in library holdings. The book published three decades after the original production contains some essays about the work and it's production at Vanderbilt in 1952 and also the text of the opera without music. Both volumes quite uncommon and presented here as a set. [none given for libretto] / Foundation for American Education hardcover
