‎"Qui de nous n'a rêvé, un jour ou l'autre, de mieux connaître la vie mystérieuse de ces « tsiganes », « gitans », « manouches », « bohémiens », qui, en roulotte ou en caravane, promènent, en marge de nos villes et de nos campagnes, leur errance séculaire et leurs modes de vie originaux ? Notre confrère François de Vaux de Foletier ne s'est pas contenté de le rêver ; il l'a fait. Depuis de nombreuses années, il a étudié les tsiganes, leur histoire, leur langue, leurs coutumes.
