Cossmann, M. and G. Pissarro
Iconographie complète des coquilles fossiles de l'Éocène des environs de Paris. Tome 1er Pélécypodes. Tome 2e Scaphopodes, Gasteropodes, Brachiopodes, Céphalopodes et supplément.
1904-1913 34 [12 (i), 21] p., 110 [45, 65] plates with explanatory text leaves, folio (32.0 x 25.0 cm). Original printed wrappers.Rare complete set in the original wrappers of this famous atlas of Eocene molluscs (and brachiopods) from the Paris Basin. Mainly from Lutetien, Bartonien and Cusien stages, these faunas are known to be extremely rich and well preserved. A few species are introduced here as valid names, in particular on the last plate of volume 1 "supplément". Around 1900, the French palaeontologist and malacologist [Alexandre Édouard] Maurice Cossmann (1850-1924), was the leading expert on the Eocene Mollusca. He had an enormous amount of material at his disposal which accounts for the quality of the photographed specimens. Pissarro was responsible for the fine photographs. A smaller, printed leaf, "Avis aux souscripteurs" has been added. A few short tears in the wrapper edges, otherwise a very good, clean set.

Annales de la Société Malacologique de belgique,
Annales de la Société Malacologique de Belgique. Tome XII.
1877 127, cxxix, [1] p., 4 (3 fine hand-coloured) lithographed pls, paperbound (back broken). This volume includes: Alfred Craven, Monographie du genre Sinusigera (22 p., 3 hand coloured plates). In 1842, Alcide d'Orbigny (in Historia fisica, politica, y natural de la isla de Cuba) first figured a strange shell with a tri-lobed aperture as Sinusigera cancellata. Today we know it represents the planktotrophic veliger stage of a Cypraea. This however, was unknown to the Belgian malacologist Alfred Craven, who in 1877 described many new species. Today, his work is forgotten but for no good reason as his clear descriptions and good figures represent valid introductions of new names (in Muricidae, Triphoridae etc.) overlooked or neglected by modern students of these families. The other plate depicts Solen laversinensis and Solen laubreirei.

Original blind-stamped cloth with gilt vignette on the front board and gilt title on the spine.First geological, palaeontological and topographical research of the "second geological district", being that part of the state north of and including the Mohawk Valley, thus including the Adirondacks and the plains towards Canada. From the latter area a marine boreal fauna is described with on two plates a number of Pleistocene molluscs. Meosozoic and older molluscs and some other invertebrates are figured in text engravings. The other plates are maps, views, and profiles, many large and folded, many handcoloured. Old library bookplate on the front paste-down, rather vague blindstamp on all the plates, touching figures but not quite obtrusive, some light wear to the boards, otherwise a good clean copy.
