Used as "Thank You" keepsakes the brochures were given by carriers to their customers on the first day of each new year and contained a long-winded cheerful poems which presented the previous year's news in verse. The Salem Register 1800 - ca 1911 was a newspaper published in Salem Massachusetts. Photo A small collection of ten 10 images of the unique Black dancing team who electrified audiences with their audacious dance moves and astonishing leaps both on stage and in movies. One photo with some light creasing overall NEAR FINE: -Eight 8 candid photos ca. 1960 about 4 1/2 x 6 3/4"" 12 x 17 cm. of the Nicholas brothers together and singly with various friends and associates. In two of the photos one of the brothers seems to be trying to give a corpulent white guy tips on how to dance the twist. -Two 2 double weight photos on matte finish paper. One is an image of the Nicholas brothers at the onset of their performing career ca. 1935 and the other is an image of them as they looked in the mid-1940s. This lot includes the January March April May August September and December issues from 1888 and the May and November issues from 1889 for a total of nine issues. First editions thus. Original paper covers with each volume in its own protective cardboard case. All volumes are generously illustrated both with illustrations embedded in the text and with plates some of which have tissue guards. Condition: Good to Very Good. All issues show general wear consistent with age including age-toning chipping or small closed tears to covers and edges of pages and small stains which only impact individual pages. Specific volumes also show more notable damage including splits to spines in two cases resulting the volume being completely separated into two sections covers detached but present individual pages detached but present and water-staining affecting multiple consecutive pages. An interesting collection of business cards most representing companies in San Francisco but also New York and Marshfield OR they covered various branches of the maritime industry of the early 20th century including a ship and machine blacksmith E.
