A boxing and pugilism classic by the boxing correspondent of the 'Daily Herald' newspaper. Very scarce, especially in this condition.

Sir Harry Preston (1860-1936) was at once a successful Brighton hotelier, keen boxing enthusiast and general all-round sportsman. His autobiography contains much material on boxing luminaries including Jack Johnson, Jim Driscoll, Jack Dempsey and many others. He was knighted in 1933 for services to sport and charity. Preston is buried at Cuckfield. UNCOMMON IN THIS CONDITION.

First appearance of Doyle's boxing tale, present here in the original three instalments with a total of sixteen illustrations (2 full-page) by Paget. The story was never published individually in book form in the UK, but was included in The Green Flag (1900), and published individually in the US and Canada in 1907 (Green & Gibson A31). SCARCE.
