An original gelatin silver photograph visible image size 395 × 540 mm mounted with a captioned mat and behind glass with gilt fillets in a vintage carved wooden frame external dimensions 645 × 800 mm with a metal title-label screwed to the front of the top edge. The photograph is a little silvered-out and lightly foxed; the mount has slight surface loss to silverfish and a few tiny marks; gilt fillets a little chipped; the frame is a little rubbed; overall an impressive presentation. The members of the club are posed in a studio setting behind two bicycles lying down with front wheels crossed the club flag draped over them. All 31 of those featured in the photograph are identified: not least are J. Michie MB Honorary Surgeon and Rev. J. Sunter BA Vice-President. The Fauser family are well-represented: there's J. Fauser Vice-Captain U. Fauser and his wife Mrs U. Fauser. She is front and centre behind the bikes along with Miss E.A. Manners resplendent in their smart leather riding gloves. Original 1896 product catalog for the "chainless" bicycle company Monarch. The Monarch was arguably the most important and widespread of all bicycles in the late 19th Century. At the time of this catalog 1896 Monarch was at it's height of success with over of 50000 sales a year. The success of the company was short-lived and by 1899 they were defunct. Numerous illustrations throughout. Six bicycle models covered in detail at end. Original chromolithoraph cover art of child flying with his bike clean and complete. New York; Verso consists of assorted punctuation marks slightly offset all over the card plus signs pound signs quotation marks equal signs periods parentheses marks dollar signs exclamation signs etc. Card Conditions; all are near fine with slight bumping to one corner from the envelope. Envelope Condition: Very Good; paste on title label has light soiling and a splash mark; the envelope has bumped corners and the metal clasp is missing the two closing prongs; blue pencil figures on reverse.
