Some small annotations in pen. Many pages are uncut. A collection of poems by George Jehoshaphat Mountain 1789-1863 an important figure in the history of the Church of England in Canada. Born in England his family came to Quebec in 1793 and were key figures in encouraging the development of the Church of England in Canada. G.J. Mountain was himself a Church of England clergyman and bishop. He developed an interest in poetry beginning in his early education which led him to produce this collection of verse inspired by his journey to Prince Rupert's Land which fell under the trade control of the Hudson's Bay Company. The work is described by the Dictionary of Canadian Biography as "a collection interesting for what it reveals of the character and personality of its author but far from memorable from a literary standpoint."
