With the book covering Stein's four journeys between 1932-1936 we are offered a wonderful portrait of both Hellenic and Persian archaeology which once riddled the region. Aurel Stein was also an important figure within the Great Game the imperial struggle for influence in Central Asia between Britain and Russia. In the publisher's decorative original maroon cloth. A copy previously belonging to Bath Public Reference Library. Externally mostly smart with the light handling marks to boards and spine. Minor rubbing to joints. Bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities. A library number to spine. End papers are mostly bright and clean with minor age toning to extremities. Library bookplate to front pastedown. Internally firmly bound. The odd library stamp to plates. Pages are bright and clean with minor age toning to leaf extremities. Couverture rigide
