A beautiful book in pristine condition. Candide is living a sheltered life with his mentor Professor Pangloss who's mantra is "all is for the best" in the "best of all possible worlds" but as the fantastical and fast-moving plot continues Candide slowly and painfully is disillusioned as he witnesses and experiences great hardships. Voltaire concludes Candide with a practical precept "we must cultivate our garden" in lieu of the "all is for the best" in the "best of all possible worlds". Candide has enjoyed both great success and great scandal.
