Dibdin 1745-1814 was a singer-songwriter nearly two centuries prior to the elevation of that combination. There were always composers who publicly performed their own music of course. He was more versatile than that though. He also wrote operas novels and plays. He collaborated with legendary theater manager David Garrick and served for a time as the Music Director at Covent Garden. The "Oddities" for which this song was written was performed in 1789. Visible part of broadside under glass and matting 36 by 24 cm. With wood frame and matting 50 by 36.5 cm. The frame is of a burled cherry we believe the matting green with a thin white beveling and we believe most would find the framing attractive and worth retaining. S. W. Fores unknown

1821réf. 00204 viii 71 pages. One of one hundred copies. Boards covered with glazed cartonnage gilt noted by Windle & Pippin p134 as an original binding. Loss of cartonnage to the spine. Corners bumped and rounded with loss. Heavy foxing to inner-covers end-papers and throughout text to varying degrees. Fair condition for a very rare item. The first of three French responses to Dibdin's Tour in France and Germany comprising of a translation of Dibdin's thirtieth letter from his Tour. What marks this publication out is the introduction written by the Parisian printer Georges Crapelet contesting Dibdin's veracity on occasions and criticising his general writing style as being too concerned with effect and over-complicated " Il vise singulièrement à l'effet ne dit jamais rien simplement ". Crapelet contrasts Dibdin's petulance and perpetual enthusiasm with the patience and contemplation he argues is necessary for bibliographical studies. That being said he also 'tips his printer's hat' to the quality of Dibdin's book production in particular his abundant use of illustrations in his publications. Windle & Pippin A39. 1919réf. 10219Liverpool: Unpublished 1919. Unpublished manuscript identifying and classifying the song lyrics written by the English dramatist composer and theatre manager Charles Dibdin Junior 1768-1833 researched and written by his descendant. Edward Rimbault Dibdin has adapted a tabbed notebook to contain around 800 single line song entries noting titles first lines plays and books as well as including a list of 63 actual book titles to the rear - this latter list including manuscript resources available to Dibdin for his research. Prolific and successful Charles Dibdin ended up managing Sadler's Wells Theatre in London where he staged variety shows which included a new kind of aquatic theatre in a large water tank. Edward Rimbault Dibdin 1853-1941 was a curator and writer who collected material relating to his distinguished forebear and published a bibliography of Charles Dibdin in 1938 - for which this manuscript was no doubt preparatory work. DESCRIPTION: Black roan notebook 195x125mm with leather reinforcement to the spine and Edward Dibdin's paper label; wear to corners. Decorative endpapers with bookseller's ticket for a Liverpool stationer where Dibdin has just retired as Director of the Walker Gallery and below Dibdin's bibliophilic bookplate. Dibdin has written and corrected a manuscript title page removing the phrase 'books relating to' and replacing it with 'the songs and other lyrics by' Charles Dibdin. Overleaf Dibdin sets out his bibliographical criteria for his listings - plays underlined in red with further codes for Epigrams and 'poems not lyrics'. He notes that he had indexed 716 songs by 1925 and a reached 753 by 1926. Please contact Christian White Rare Books Ltd for more information or images of this item 1919 Unpublished hardcover
