Inscribed first printing of Levis's first poetry collection one of the most important debuts of the 1970s. While Levis's WRECKING CREW is more overtly political than his later work it forms the beginning of what was to become "a towering body of work by one of the great American poets of the 20th century" Elisa Gabbert. In the years since his premature death at the age of just 49 in 1996 Levis's work has only grown in reputation and stature and as such books signed by him remain uncommon especially with so warm and revealing an inscription. Volume III is his Works which include his 'Lettres et Eptres' his 'Poesies Diverses' and his 'Chansons'. Collated complete. All three volumes are written entirely in French. Antoine Hamilton was an Irish classical author of Scottish ancestry who wrote in French. His literary characteristics are those of a French author and his 'Memoires du comte de Gramont' made him one of the classical writers of France. Hamilton was raised in France as his family fled after the execution of Charles I. In half calf bindings with gilt stamping to the spines. Externally smart with rubbing to the joints and the head and tails of the spines. Prior owner's bookplate to front pastedown Clonmore. Internally all volumes are firmly bound.
