The play is set in the castle of Aguas Frescas which is three leagues from Seville. The play begins in the bedroom to be shared in the castle by Figaro and Suzanne after their wedding. In this play Beaumarchais denounces aristocratic privilege which as this work was first published in 1778 is often seen as foreshadowing of the forthcoming French Revolution. The other books in the 'Figaro' trilogy are 'Le Barbier de Seville' and 'La Mere Coupable'. Pierre Beaumarchais was a French polymath being a revolutionary publisher spoy horticulturist watchmaker as well as many other pursuits. He was a supporter of American independence. Light edgewear resulting in some loss to the head of the front wrap and to the bottom of the rear wrap. Closed tear to the front wrap. Internally firmly bound.
