In it a small band of warriors and mystics raise their swords to save Europe from a bloodthirsty Mongol invasion. Inspired by their leader an elder of an order of warrior monks they embark on a perilous journey and uncover the history of hidden knowledge and conflict among powerful secret societies that had been shaping world events for millennia. But the saga reaches the modern world via a circuitous route. In the late 19th century Sir Richard F. Burton an expert on exotic languages and historical swordsmanship is approached by a mysterious group of English martial arts aficionados about translating a collection of long-lost manuscripts. Burton dies before his work is finished and his efforts were thought lost until recently rediscovered by a team of amateur archaeologists in the ruins of a mansion in Trieste Italy. From this collection of arcana the incredible tale of The Mongoliad was recreated. Full of high adventure unforgettable characters and unflinching battle scenes The Mongoliad ignites a dangerous quest where willpower and blades are tested and the scope of world-building is redefined.' -- publisher. 47North paperback

Stories included give a rarely heard perspective on the war and Luftwaffe members are frank in revealing the difficulties they encountered and what they believe led to their downfall. The Luftwaffe pilot and crew members featured in this unusual collection divulge what was once highly-confidential information including fighter tactics aircraft technology and operations how they received their commands and what the chain in carrying out their orders was. Also included are thirty rarely seen photographs and five maps and diagrams. Images feature things such as uniformed Luftwaffe officers close-up shots of fighter planes and the boundaries the planes were authorized to carry out their missions in. This unique volume was compiled by acclaimed military historian David C. Isby and is extraordinarily comprehensive. To make it Isby poured over accounts of the war given by members of the Luftwaffe shortly after the events they describe. ; FINE/FINE Greenhill Books ; Stackpole Books, London ; Mechanicsburg, Pa., c1998 hardcover

19558vo., First Edition thus, with frontispiece, 41 plates on 22, and 3 full-page maps and 2 full-page charts in the text; handsomely bound in full navy crushed morocco, sides with gilt frame border, back with raised bands, second and fourth compartments lettered and ruled in gilt, all other compartments tooled in gilt with a propeller motif, gilt top, hand-made endpapers, ribbon marker, a most attractive copy ideal as a gift or for presentation. General Adolf Galland (1912-1996), one of Germany's leading fighter pilots of WWII, served as General der Jagdflieger (overall commander of the national fighter force) from 1941 to 1945. His combat career began in the Spanish Civil War during which he completed over 300 missions with Condor Legion. Throughout the Battle of Britain he served with III/JG26 against England and Northern France, and in 1942 devised the successul air protection of Operation CERBERUS, the famous 'Channel Dash' of the SCHARNHORST, GNEISENAU AND PRINZ EUGEN. Later in the same year he tested an early prototype of the Me262, the world's first operational jet fighter, before leaving combat to concentrate on the air defence of Germany against the RAF and USAAF bombing offensive. Increasingly critical of higher Nazi authority, he was relieved of his command following the 'Fighter Revolt' and returned to front-line duty with the elite Jagdverband in the Spring of 1945. He finished the war with 103 victories on over 700 missions and was awarded the Knight's Cross with Oakleaves, Swords and Diamonds, one of Germany's highest decorations. Galland's autobiography was first published as 'Die Ersten und die Letzen' in 1953 and is widely regarded as the most insightful and far-reaching account of WWII Axis air combat and one of the finest overall aviation memoirs of all time.
