1885RARE monograph on the life and works of Jonah ibn Janah (Janach, also known as Abu al-Walid Marwan ibn Janach, c. 990-c. 1055), was an eminent Jewish rabbi, physician and Hebrew grammarian active in Al-Andalus, or Islamic Spain. The author - Wilhelm Bacher (1850-1913) was an influential Jewish Hungarian scholar, rabbi, Orientalist and linguist. 2003RARE collection of 55 papers in Hebrew and West Semitic epigraphy by Frank Moore Cross, Jr. (1921-2012), the Hancock Professor of Hebrew and Other Oriental Languages Emeritus at Harvard University, notable for his work in the interpretation of the Dead Sea Scrolls, his 1973 magnum opus 'Canaanite Myth and Hebrew Epic', and his work in Northwest Semitic epigraphy. Many of his essays on the latter topic have since been collected in 'Leaves from an Epigrapher's Notebook', revised especially for this book. The papers are divided into five sections: Palaeography, Transjordanian Epigraphy, Hebrew Inscriptions, Aramaic Texts, Old Canaanite and Phoenician Inscriptions. Contains many b&w plates, indices of modern authors and of texts (Biblical references, Targumic literature, Greek and Roman authors, texts from the Judaean Desert, Arrowheads and other inscriptions). 280x220mm.
