2012New English Paperback. Pbo. Demy 8vo. (21 x 17 cm). In English. 72, [1] p., color and b/w ills. 1000 copies were printed. "The building in which a significant part of M. Hakan Gürüney's Tenedos Collection of more than 5,000 documents and objects is exhibited was the highest and most magnificent of the buildings constructed after the 1874 Tenedos fire. It was originally constructed by Dimosten Tulmidis as two adjoining buildings. One of the buildings was two storeys high and the other, three. The side facades of the building were ornamented with the shallowly projecting columns known as pilasters. Photographs of the preiod reveal that there is an open terrace and marble columns on the third storey. After the family that resided there immigrated to Australia in 1950, the building fell into disrepair, and when bricks and marble began to fall into the road from the upper storeys, these floors were demolished, leaving only two one-storey buildings and their foundations. Over time the buildings were used for various purposes, and on 7 June 2006 a protocol was signed designating the building the Tenedos Local History Research Center, a joint project of the Tenedos District Governor's Office and M. Hakan Gürüney, for the purpose of exhibiting the Tenedos Collection".

Very minor shelfwear to book. ; Translated Documents of Greece and Rome 2; 232 pages; The second volume of Translated Documents of Greece and Rome is a collection of English translations with commentary and bibliography, ancient and modern, of the major inscriptions and historical fragments relating to the history of Greece in the fourth century BC. The book is designed to supplement existing translations of the extant historical works of the period, so that the student who knows neither Greek nor Latin can study the fourth century in greater depth than has previously been possible. The period covered by this collection includes the restoration of the democracy at Athens in 403/2, the creation of the Second Athenian Naval League, the Theban hegemony, the Sacred and Social Wars, the rise of Philip of Macedon, the career of his son Alexander, the Lamian War and, finally, the first rounds of the battle for the succession. There are documents from places as far apart as Priene and Tegea, but the majority come from Athens. This collection includes such material as alliances and peace treaties, honorific decrees, catalogues of temple deposits and naval equipment, laws, accounts, dedications, legal decisions, royal correspondence, constitutions and some important fragments of narrative histories. This book will be welcomed by teachers and students of ancient history.

1992Paperback has been rebound in hardcover preserving original wraps. Ex-library copy with usual stamps, call numbers and pocket. ; Clarendon Paperbacks; 0.61 x 8.46 x 5.5 Inches; 264 pages; The Aeneid can strike one as a relatively conventional epic, an objective heroic tale of Rome's beginnings. Vergil designed it so that it might read in this way. This is one, epic `voice' that he wished us to hear. But there are `further voices', and these may be disturbing, even shocking, as they add to, comment upon, question and occasionally subvert the implications of the epic voice. This is a detailed examination of Vergil's method of intruding such further voices.
