Attended by the head of the ECB Jean-Claude Trichet, Commissioner Joaquim Almunia, the Greek Finance Minister George Papaconstantinou and the governor of the Bank of Greece George Provopoulos. For the secret meeting informed proven source of the Eurogroup, then chaired by Mr. Juncker, and confirmed to me by Mr. Papakonstantinou, who told me that during the "Our measures applied to reduce the 2010 deficit (of course, not 2009). Especially," he said, "the ECB insisted very large reduction ( spoke for 4-5 units). Finally we put the budget reduction of 3.6 units, with additional measures in January were 4 points, "said the then finance minister. That day, Messrs. Juncker, Trichet and Almunia sent in Mr. Papandreou a "mini Memorandum". It was their proposal to end the crisis in the bud. Then Prime Minister never answered them. And Greece was led to destruction . Researching the Greek debt crisis, increasingly concluded that the country had the misfortune to fall into the hands of leaders who have been unable either to understand the dimensions of the crisis that exploded in their hands or to manage it.To write this book I spoke to 139 people: officials of the Greek government, the IMF, the US government, FED, ECB and European Commission.
