1911réf. 3344A very good copy of the 1st edition in the original decorative cloth binding with a mounted picture to the front board. Illustrated with colour frontispiece and 4 further colour plates by Rachel Ainslie Grant Duff 1891-1934 who lived in Aberdeenshire and was also a portrait painter. The binding is very clean. The front board has black decoration and titles and a mounted picture. There is a small cloth ripple at the top; the top corner is turned in; and the bottom corner is rubbed with small cloth loss. The spine has bright gilt titles. It has some pulling and rubbing to the ends and there is a small white mark at the top. The back board has some bubbling to the cloth towards the bottom and a score mark which finishes at the side edge and has a darker section in the middle. The cloth is not broken. The bottom corner is rubbed with cloth loss and the top corner is bumped. There is a very small area of pale marking near the spine joint. Top page edges tinted brown; remainder untrimmed. Internally the contents are complete and very clean with: half title colour frontispiece and guard title poem contents and illustrations lists and introduction pp li; text with 4 colour plates pp 1-128; notes pp 129-148; and Gaelic texts for 2 of the stories pp 149-172. There is some spotting at the endpapers and the rear pastedown has a bubbled area which is probably related to the score on the board surface. The text is generally spot free apart from pages next to the colour plates. The backing is visible at p 64/5 but the binding is sound. Please enquire if you would like to see additional images.
