Like all vivacious dogmatists Marinetti is not ironic and the hymn is his natural form of expression. He produces a heroic stance which in its obstinate unswayable monumentality invokes Schiller's shadow. He is continuously mired in that boisterous music of the spheres; a bow finger of the eternal ocean glorious sunsets the valiant death. An enthusiast observing from the furthest edge of his time vom äußersten Kap seiner Zeit schauend; advanced to the beauty of iron constructions and by no means recoils from the hymn to the automobile.' "In 1933 the German architect Bruno Taut 1880-1938 who had fled from the Nazis the year before arrived in Japan where he stayed for three years.Taut wrote "In Katsura denkt das Auge" - "At Katsura the eyes think." He was struck by the simplicity of the building by its apparent lack of ornamentation by its just proportions and by its spatial integration with the surrounding garden. These features seemed to him to accord perfectly with the aesthetic ideals of twentieth-century functionalism. Yet when one considers the Katsura Palace in the context of the Japanese architectural tradition it is difficult to say that Taut's assessment of it was adequate. In preparing this book we have attempted to rid ourselves of this preconceived notion and examine Katsura as it is. Our aim has been to start from scratch and arrive at an objective appraisal which would put the palace in proper perspective with regards to Japanese architecture as a whole. Takeshi Nishikawa spent nearly five years taking the photographs reproduced here. Kodansha International LTD hardcover books

Originally written circa 1190 in Judeo-Arabic as Dalalat al-Ha'irin these writings takes the form of a lengthy three-part letter to his student Rabbi Joseph ben Judah of Ceuta and are seen as the main source for understanding Maimonides' philosophic view rather than his strictly being his views on Jewish law. It is the most known of his works in the non-Jewish world. The work's first translation into Hebrew was in 1204 by Rabbi Samuel ben Judah ibn Tibbon c.1150 - c.1230 a contemporary of Maimonides.
