1940réf. 0824-LIDAThis lovely book is named for the birds that are "more blue than the sky" but the rich and glowing language also describes the kingfisher's lifespan and habitat in generous detail. For example there are baby eels that look as if they were made of glass lumbering crayfish whose task is to clean up the stream hazelnut branches and ferns mud hens with nests of speckled eggs the tiny mutterings of tadpoles an amusing water rat forever popping out of his hole with a surprised little face grubs that had been in the mud for a thousand days and a swarm of day flies lighter than a breath. We watch the kingfisher from first arrival in the lush valley through hunting nesting and on to the next generation. Weaving among all of these amazing creatures is the stream whose water flows and sings as it winds zigzagging through the valley as though it wanted to say "Good Morning!" to all of the willows round about. Many vibrant color and black & white sketches by Rojan grace each page giving an expansive view of the kingfisher's world. Part of the Pere Castor series originally published in French but now translated to English by Lily Duplaix. CONDITION DETAILS see our photos of actual book for sale: stated FIRST EDITION. Boards show some edgewear and corner bumping plus a small chip in the upper spine. The spine has moderate fading and mottled coloring.
