1995réf. 26London: Faber & Faber 1995. First Edition. New. First Printing of Pamuk's second novel. The book is Fine with barely a trace of the usual darkening to the paper on the top edge. The jacket is also Fine with the original price of UK 14.99 net unclipped. It bears some pretty simplistic yet strikingly different artwork than that of the American edition published by FSG a year earlier. A mystery novel set in Istanbul involving an amateur sleuth missing persons and investigative journalists. Considerably less common than the American edition. Faber & Faber unknown

The Oriental Institute of the University of Chicago was one of the first institutions to respond. Before March was ended a team was in Cairo arranging for the use of a boat to make a hasty preliminary survey of the Nile Valley in Egyptian Nubia in order to select sites and plan field operations. A four-year concession was granted from 1960 to 1964. 1940réf. 081609Baltimore: The Johns Hopkins Press 1940. First Full-Color Facsimile Editi. Hardcover. Near Fine/Fair. 12.25" tall x 9.75" wide x 1.5" thick. Illustrated. The first full-color facsimile edition with English translation and scholarly apparatus of the earliest known illustrated medical herbal produced in the Americas. The work’s original title is Libellus de medicinalibus Indorum herbis “Little Book of the Medicinal Herbs of the Indians”. It was compiled in 1552 at the College of Santa Cruz in Tlatelolco Mexico City by two Indigenous scholars: Martín de la Cruz Martinus de la Cruz an Aztec physician wrote the text in Nahuatl Aztec language from native medical experience; and Juan Badiano Juannes Badianus a Latin teacher at the same college translated it into Latin. The manuscript was prepared as a gift for Francisco de Mendoza son of Viceroy Antonio de Mendoza and intended ultimately for the Spanish court. It later passed into the Barberini collection and then the Vatican Library Codex Barberini Lat. 241. It was rediscovered there in 1929 by Charles Upson Clark. The edition made the herbal widely accessible for the first time and remains a landmark in the history of American botany and medicine. The original manuscript was later returned to Mexico by Pope John Paul II in 1990. ABOUT THIS COPY: In this the 1940 Johns Hopkins edition and the first full-color facsimile Emily Walcott Emmart provided the introduction English translation and annotations. Henry E. Sigerist wrote the foreword. Bound in a textured tan cloth with a burgundy and gilt aztec embellishment on the front cover. Spine bears a burgundy label with gilt lettering and ornamentation. Profusely illustrated in full color.
