1953ref. 15393New York: National Education Dept. Communist Party U.S.A. 1953. A Communist Party educational publication applying Stalin's writings on nationalism and the national question to the struggle for African American civil rights and self-determination. The work was authored by black Communist Party leader James E. Jackson Jr. under the pseudonym Charles P. Mann presumably due to his Smith Act indictment two years prior. Jackson argues that black Americans constitute an oppressed people whose liberation requires both the abolition of racial discrimination throughout the United States and recognition of the right to national self-determination in the South. Drawing extensively on Stalin's Marxism and the National Question and Lenin's The Right of Nations to Self-Determination Mann distinguishes between the black population concentrated in the South which he characterizes as an oppressed nation and black communities elsewhere in the country whose immediate struggle he associates principally with equal democratic rights. Stapled wrappers 10 ¾" x 8 ½" 47 pp. A near fine copy. National Education Dept., Communist Party, U.S.A. unknown
