Good with lean to spine light staining and wear to binding textblock edges. Prelims heavily stained; front free endpaper stained without affecting signatures. In a Good price-clipped dust jacket with light toning and soiling closed tears and some loss to panels folds. Signed by nearly half of the "Hollywood Ten" screenwriters and directors cited for contempt of Congress for refusing to answer questions posed by the anti-Communist House Un-American Activities Committee in 1947. They were fined and sentenced to prison. Of the four who have signed this book Edward Dmytryk the director of the noir films Crossfire and Murder My Sweet is the only one who recanted and asked to testify claiming the Cold War and the trial of Alger Hiss had changed his mind. In 1951 he gave the names of "subversives" to the Committee. His career was revived and he went on to direct the classics Mutiny on the Bounty The Sniperand The Caine Mutiny.
