1864ref. 941London: John Churchill and Sons New Burlington Street 1864. First edition. This is a scarce statistical and epidemiological dermatological study by Erasmus Wilson one of the most eminent British dermatologists of the nineteenth century published in 1864 by John Churchill and Sons. Rather than a general textbook of classification and treatment this work is a focused empirical inquiry: Wilson sets out to establish the relative frequency typical duration and underlying cause of various skin diseases as deduced from his own clinical observation of one thousand consecutive cases - an unusually data-driven and quantitative approach to dermatological research for its period predating the widespread adoption of large-scale case-series methodology in British medicine. The work is further distinguished by its inclusion of specific remarks on the exanthematous rash-producing epidemic that occurred in the spring of 1864 giving the book real value as a primary historical source documenting a specific contemporary disease outbreak as observed and analyzed by a leading practitioner of the day. Condition & Binding: This copy has been rebound in plain grey paper-covered boards with a brown cloth spine evidently a later library or collector rebinding with a neat printed paper label affixed to the front board reading "ON DISEASES OF THE SKIN - E. WILSON." The binding itself is clean sturdy and free of significant wear presenting as a tidy functional rebind rather than the original ornamental publisher's cloth. Internally the text block shows light-to-moderate age-toning with some scattered foxing and spotting particularly to the title page along with minor edge wear and a small chip to the lower corner of the title leaf though the text remains fully complete and legible throughout. Overall- very good. John Churchill and Sons, New Burlington Street unknown

The ten books in this collection all come from the height of his career and most of them are SPECIAL COPIES WITH ADDITIONAL SUITES OF THE PRINTS AND/OR ORIGINAL DRAWINGS. 1 Le Diable amoureux by Cazotte. One of only a few copies with the prints beautifully illuminated by hand; 2 Another copy of the same one of 127 copies with a remarque suite; 3 Le malheureux petit Voyage by Soulages. One of only 25 copies tete with an original drawing used for one of the illustrations signed a second suite in color a suite in black and a second suite of the wood-engraved decorations by Poilliot. Beautifully bound in full leather with original color drawings by Leroy on both covers; 4 La Belle sans chemise ou Eve ressuscitee. A unique artist's copy with a stunning original color drawing signed a remarque suite and four likely unique color separation proofs; 5 Le bon Plaisir by Henri de Regnier. One of 36 copies tete with an original color drawing used for one of the illustrations signed a remarque suite in color and a remarque suite in black; 6 L'Eloge de la folie by Erasmus. 1534ref. 150904London: Robert Wyer c. 1534. Erasmus on reading the Bible in the vernacular Rare English translation of Erasmus's Paraclesis "a cogently argued text in support of the Bible in the vernacular and it is this particular thrust of the work that must have drawn the early English reformers to it since they too like Erasmus spoke eloquently and at length. in support of the Bible in English" Douglas H. Parker. Based on a translation variously attributed to either William Joy or George Joye which was first printed at Antwerp in 1529 this is one of two editions printed for the first time in England in 1534. While the 1529 Antwerp edition had included a translation of Martin Luther's commentary on 1 Corinthians 7 both 1534 editions replace Luther's text with another Erasmus text "An exhortacyon to the study of the Gospell".
